• So the survey is not just a simple “how did you like the product” survey? 30+ questions seems pretty in depth and time consuming to complete for the end user!

Most mail clients should be able to do this. If I understand the journey correctly:

    • User buys product -> survey gets sent to user -> survey responses returned to you -> you respond to survey answer

This to me sounds like a fairly simple integration. The email client provides the means of getting the survey from you to them in an easy and automated format. The user fills in the survey and you say where the responses go when the user clicks “submit”. This could be to your email address/business email/generic comments@ email or whatever you want.

Once you get the responses it sounds like you’ll spend some time reading and responding. If this is the case then there won’t really be any way to automate the responses (unless you’re going for some kind of chat bot) so your best bet sounds like a template with branded header/footer to make it look official, and then you put the copy into a central block that changes each time. This way you can have the set format that can be reused, and still allows you to personalise the content for each response. This may take some time depending on the level of response, but that’s the trade off between generic vs personalised content in emails.

The other advantage with something like Mailchimp is that it allows you to manage email consents and unsubscribes for you. If someone responds to a survey and says “do not email me again” then you don’t have any grounds (legitimate interest or consent) to contact them with your answers. You also might want to get some advice on whether and how far you can email users with the survey in the first instance. I know what my reading of GDPR and consent is and it’s fairly strict but I am not a lawyer, just based on experience of working in data and marketing sectors.

Sorry this got so long, lots to think about!
