  • Nice one! Thanks for writing it up.

Was great to chat shit with you at the start and thanks for saving my kit from the bastardballers :)

It was definitely tougher than I expected and I'm glad I stuck with the MTB cassette as my legs are quite intact. The heat was a proper bastard and I normally lap it up. Maybe not having TABR done meant this was my first hot ride with no 'warm' up.

Did you use your Tupperware later on? Would've been good for jamming in some proper food down the track. Mmmm doughnuts...

  • I'm not sure I underestimated this race, it was more a case of I didn't expect to have so much saddle pain in a relatively short distance. Not sure what that was about. Maybe extra fast chaffing due to sweat due to the heat.

I'd still done little planning for this one but even if I had bothered to look into the climbs, if you are looking at average gradients for mountains and they include the descents in the average then that's just dumb for getting a good idea of the climb's real difficulty.

Still, thanks to my clever choice of gearing I was never overwhelmed by a climb (no pinging knees, no back drama) and since no one can predict the weather it seems I covered all bases reasonably well, if carrying a little too much kit due to paranoia from RATN.
