  • When I was there a couple of years ago you could get consumables - Speedplay cleats for instance - for cheaps in the larger warehouse type stores.

Not sure the pounds demolition against the dollar will help.

  • Sorry to up the thread again, but I'm heading over here around Oct/Nov time with my bike and was wondering is there any nice places or people to see? Got the usual tourist stuff on TripAdvisor, but want to know what forum opinion and experiences on places to go.

    Many Thanks.

  • Dress warm, is all I’ll say.

  • It won’t be as cold relatively as it usually is, but go in to Marin/ do that dam ride.

It’s best to try and get out of SF as much as is possible once you’ve done the two days of tourist stuff.
And one day for the exploratorium/night.
    It’s not the nicest city.

Also, in n’ out (though again outside of SF as the wharf one is a mess.)

  • Mate I know loads of sick places to eat and ride

  • TBF I thought in and out burger was meh but I did go to the wharf one.

  • But then I guess for me it’s more a nostalgia thing.
It is where I sort of grew up.

  • Marin?

That's the plan, my mate ask me to go to the lighthouse up north of SF and then whatever places it will be great to explore and get lost.

I'm staying at mission district so I will be in the heart of the SF in the evening.

There is a lot of talk with the wharf, is it that bad? Just tourist stuff to avoid like London?

  • So cock tease, do spill!

  • Also what's it like cycling there? Going there with my road bike and probably do some rides with the rapha club to get a feel of the place and see/meet new people.

  • Talk to Rivendell in Oakland, they have loads of "secret" riding places within very short distances. Generally fire roads but some pavement too I think.

  • Going to SF on thursday for a 2 week holiday with a drive for Yosemite for 4-5 days. Planning to do some riding over there. Not bringing my own bike though so I'll be glad to take any advices on bike renting and good routes over there. A trip to Rivendell in Oakland is mandatory

  • I stopped in there in 2002 so I've no idea how much has changed (though I think they're in the same location) but it was amazing how small and seemingly unimportant it looked. I think that was the time I realized the power of a web-based business, how something so niche as Rivendell was (and kind of still is) capable of surviving when going world wide.
