But that's your word. What I recall Mike saying is that he was keen to have more women riders and more riders from different countries.

And he didn't want recumbents or tandems because he felt it wasn't competing on equal terms with standard bikes.

It’s just the definition of the word.

Ah I haven’t heard him talk about tandems or the such before in interviews. That’s fair enough.

From the race manual FAQ:

Can I use a Velomobile/Recumbent/Tandem?
This is a bicycle race, for what most understand as regular bicycles. We like to see people on roughly the same kind of machine, otherwise why race at all?
