Agreed. I rode it last week on my touring bike. 700x28c "off road" was a lot of fun. I had no problems at all. It's a great day ride from London. Stan's was also great.

Is there any chance of joining you on this?
-
• #154
Of course
It’s open to all!
I’ll do an event later today

I hope you've sent those four emails and aren't wasting your time procrastinating on a cycling forum!

• #159
LoL - They are all about Railway infrastructure, so there is sort of, maybe, a tangible link there.....

Those are nice

I'm riding Holyhead to Cardiff in September with a friend loosely following Lon Las Cymru.
https://cycle.travel/route/lon_las_cymru
I presume some of this route will take in some old lines and no doubt we will enjoy suddenly appearing on some but does anyone have any they know of we can maybe add in?

Not to familiar with the welsh lines
But my 1963 map shows this
Looks like you are on an old branch line to Merthyr and then i think there is pre '63 track bed to Brecon? (Route description eludes to this)
You'll cross the existing track at Builth/LLandrindod, then you have Ffestiniog to visit at the top!

I'm unlikely to join the ranks of the southern RTC, but do ride old rail routes up here in the norf. Pretty please could you post me one?

Aware this may be opening the floodgates... How would £2 sound? To cover an envelope, a 1st class stamp and a £1-something forum donation. Concerned this may cause others to want them and keen not to send em out until the Shoreham ride has happened and those people can be given them and donate if they wish. If others express interest, could start a list and do it all organised like... @Ecobeard loves a bit of admin.

ha ha ha
go on then....

Here are all of those '63 maps if useful for anyone.
Not comprhensive of course as line came and went before then, but still a decent guide I find.

Nice one.
Devils Bridge sounds like somewhere that needs a visit!
-
• #170
Just edited that post, mostly with link to Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway
Devils Bridge has the falls, a creepy hotel from Hinterland fame and it is the eastern terminus of the preserved Vale of Rheidol Railway.
Rode out there years and years ago when staying in Aberystwyth for work

Sounds very reasonable to me. I'll drop you a PM.

Just spotted it's a heritage railway through that valley. It looks incredible.

First line to be privatised
-
• #174
Was there last summer - the hotel does quite a good lunch compared with last time (about 30 years ago, pre Hinterland)
Vale of Rheidol Railway is fun if you can avoid the school holidays. -

Was a date proposed for the Shoreham ride?
Or did I miss it?!
