  • What fork is this if you don't mind me asking?

  • Use a spacer?

  • King Saxlingham, have you tried putting some velcro on your bag so that you can get the straps tighter?

  • I had an ortlieb handlebar bag. The bolt in the mounting system that secures the cable down that was hard to install / remove.

  • Not sure sorry- will inspect and let you know. Came with bike as a complete build so didn’t source it.

  • For a rear rack you can replace the seat collar with ones with rack mounts.

  • Nah, I’ve ended up ordering a custom basket bag of my design through MackWorkshop.

The Restrap one is fine, but only fine. Just a correct shape bag with no other features. Guess the price reflects that compared to a sugarloaf etc

  • Cool, I have been debating getting a similar carbon fork for my old mtb

  • Sweet new MackWorkshop custom arrived today. I call it the ‘Banana basket bag’. Basically mesh nets that sit above the height of the basket so you can stash bananas without them getting bruised.

Roll top for winter, bright inner to see stuff, padded base and internal pocket.

Mega pleased! Give that man your work.

  • How long did he take from when you contacted? A few people mentioned he was properly long but you seem happy so maybe he’s sorted the backlog and is working well? That’d be nice to hear

  • About 6 weeks I think start to finish.

For a custom bag of the quality Jon knocks out, I’d say that’s a fair timescale. In the age of next day delivery I think sometimes people get a bit impatient. I’m personally happy to wait.

It’s the third custom I’ve had from MackWorkshop, and They’ve all been stellar.

  • I have front and rear. I used the front for commuting to carry laptop and clothes. Never any issues. I lent the rears to a mate for a Danube trip. They are cavernous and he didn’t use the additional strap on sections.
They seem really well made and I’ve no marks, holes etc.
One from today’s commute and I took the other yesterday. It’s a Tubus lowrider rack.

  • Anyone got a BLB frontier rack? would it be possible to mount the rack without the axle mount adaptor thing? Bolt it something straight through the holes in the rack itself?

p.s. anyone wanna sell me one?

  • Do yourself a favour and buy the Soma or Minoura Gamoh, BLB is poo

  • Mounting on a track bike with only axles and brake bolt reduces my options somewhat :(

  • both of those should still work

  • I assume you're splitting the weight when you commute - laptop in one side, shoes and clothes in the other?

  • Yes, as much as I can. The weight of the laptop is heavier than my clothes but I also have tools, spare tubes etc to balance things up.
The the images above it is actually a tent and cook gear in there as I’m checking out the balance and handling for an upcoming ride.

  • How do you like it vs the SQR slim? I’m considering trying panniers vs front rack bag but the hassle of splitting across the sides puts me off

  • The sqr slim looks nicer and is easier to use as it has a drawstring to close the inner and a single clip to close the flap. The side pockets are not great on it and it is difficult to get them secure if they are not full, ie if the pocket is only half full the flap over the pocket leaves room for potential loss of items as they rattle around. Generally this closure parts work best when it is more full. The inner pocket has a Velcro closer which is not all the way across.
The carradry has the zip side pockets so no chance of losing stuff and the main section is has variable capacity if you’ve more kit to carry. Worth the two fasteners on the main compartment flap it would be possible to stuff wet kit behind it so as to keep the main compartment dry. This would be much more difficult on the slim with its single fastener. There are two internal compartments for documents or small valuables. Both are zipper closed and one is removable by popper fasteners.
I use the slim for commuting. It takes my laptop and clothes bag (no shoes, trousers or towel) easily.
I tend to leave them on the bike when in use as have my clothes in a separate bag which I carry in and out of the house/office.
    Hope this helps.

  • Thats really useful thanks

  • £60 more expensive than the BLB one tho :(

  • Isn't the Minoura cheaper than the BLB?
