Are there any bail out options if the double is attempted?
Hopefully not needed but if it looks like i wont be getting home til late in the afternoon I may have to cut my losses (if possible)!
I am a stubborn bastard though so hopefully wont be needed!

Ipswich is the only real bail out option, once you're past that you're committed.
Got back to Wimbledon around 3pm last year, that was with gears, trying it fixed this time....

Now doing it with a couple of mates who swore many times when i mentioned the double so I am planning to leave my car in Ipswich (or maybe omewhere slightly closer) before Saturday night so We have only got to go an extra 30 miles Sunday morning rather than the whole way back to Kent

I'm down in London for FullStack until Friday, so figured what the hey, I'm in! Booked a cheap hotel for Friday night. Hopefully the ride back to Ipswitch for a train up north afterwards isn't too arduous!

Cameltoe are you riding back from leaving the car? What are your thoughts about parking, I was just thinking leaving it near as possible to the beach. I put the gpx in my Garmin and plan to ride home after the drop off, join if you want, I am not proud and might get a train

I was going to go early Saturday morning then get the train home. Apparently there is free parking at Darsham station but not too many spaces so going to head up there and see what i can find!
Hmm riding back does sound appealing. what sort of timings you thinking?
Edit. Intriguing not appealing

Any chance you could share the route? Would be handy to have a rough idea of which way to go!
-
• #63
Best enjoyed not using the route and following the red lights instead though. :)

Cool - cheers! I'm not familiar with this part of the UK (being a northerner) - so am just hoping it'll be easy to figure out!

The joy of it is that it's all so easy. There's pubs and food all the way along and it's almost impossible to get lost, because so many people do it! Follow the red lights and enjoy the short panic having to pick between the set that went left and the set that went right. Download and pin any one of those routes above to RWGPS as a backup and draw out a proper route to Ipswich and you're golden. It's nice not to have to worry too much about battery charge.

...Or the panic of coming to a junction with no visible riders in front and just guessing the way whilst being followed by a large group... luckily I guessed correctly!
-

Ha I had that one year...
I guessed wrongly. I mean it was a road, it probably would have been fine and gone somewhere and ended up in the right direction, but I did turn around after 1km or so and a good few people followed me back the way we'd come. Past other people still heading down my erroneous lane. Missing it this year, enjoy!

Last year there were small tea lights (plastic with LED inside, not candles) at most junctions to direct dun runners the right way. They are small but keep an eye out, they saved us a few times last year :)

There are always tea lights to help with the navigation, but they're quite spread out, so not easy to spot sometimes.
After dawn, they're usually impossible to spot! -

yup, i did that, ended up with some Brixton CC riders behind us as we did a 7 mile detour. Was fun though, oh how we laughed about it .....

It doesn't really matter by which route you get to Dunwich. There are plenty of options for route variation, especially in the second half. The route on the route sheets is basically a suggestion. (It is a damn good route and quite possibly the best, but don't get too worried if you don't follow it in every part.)

Left it too late to book the train from Ipswich, their special booking form closed on Sunday.
Does anyone have a direct link to Ipswich station?
Anyone fancy driving up with me a couple of days before, leaving the car and riding at a road training pace back to London? Then I would be happy to drive you, your bike, both, or an elected friend, back to London after the actual DD which I plan on doing with my wife on our tandem. Lemme know via pm
