If I were in your position, I'd build the MKM as a sunday best and turn the dolan into a city bruiser with 650bs and the basket.

Very wise, but I've never successfully owned a sunday best, for space I normally need to dismantle and stash one to make room for the next :)

I had a RIC in solid bright orange enamel. It looked great. Miss that frame, it was rumoured to be Tony Doyles from the 70's.

Short on cash and couldn't decide on a colour so picked up the frame set from Mario.
If I'm feeling 'creative' I may get some colour on it and build it up, seems like the wise thing to do so I can see how much I like it before I spend money getting it painted properly.

Yeah I'm pretty tempted to..

Tried to get a 26.8 seatpost in but doesn't seem to want to fit. Could source a 26.6 / 26.4 but think it's more the case that the seat tube has ovalised slightly around the clamp area... any good techniques for rounding it out again?

Have you tried to ream it?

I vote for a diy job. Fluoro colours work quite well for rattle can paintjobs. Apply it patiently and use some 2k clearcoat and it'll look great. You could also cut some mkm decals out of vynil, their logo is oretty simple so it shouldn't be a problem to do it yourself. My friend's duell with a diy rattle can fluoro fade paintjob, it really looks stunning and it held up really well in its first year of use:

This one is a rattle can job as well iirc
Imo you can get great results with rattlecans if you take the time to do it properly. As you probably know already, you should try to spray it from a constant distance with little repeated 'puffs' of spraypaint. Take your time and do multi rounds with breaks inbetween each layer. You can also sand each layer after it has dried with really fine sanding paper, I think I used 1.5k when I painted the gf bike a couple years ago. I'm definitely not an expert at this but I can say that's it's possible to get a good finish as long as your patient.

So cool!! I'd like to have a ride on an ultimate someday. That red looks great as well. I have those black / silver decals but you have to cut around them yourself, and I think I fucked it up :-/
I picked up some spray paints that someone was giving away locally, so may do a little test with them on some raw forks I have and just go for it if I think they'll work..

Not tried to team it, looking at it I wonder if it could be fixed by opening up the clamp area a bit, looks like its pinched in slightly...

Bit of progress with this- a friend painted it for me- He has access to a spray booth and had some paints left over from another project. (Sorry for the soft focus piccy)
I’ll need to get the frame prepped as there’s quite a lot of spray in the bb threads etc (my fault for not masking it off properly) but I think he’s done a very good job.
Also need to decide on decals.. black, white or gold.

What happened with your Jan Jannsen?

Still got it!

It’s (sort of) in storage at the moment. I haven’t really decided on the parts I’d like to build it up with.. ¯\ _ (ツ) _/¯

Ditto. And wouldn't you know I also have an MKM Ultimate, which as it was missing gear hangar braze-on (previous owner had filed it off) I decided to convert it to fixed wheel TT / track spec. I also did my own crackle-glaze rattle can spray job. Finished off with Mavic SSC components. My flickr gallery details the stripping, respray and build process. I've done numerous home spray jobs with great results. Highly recommended if you're willing to put in the time.

Shame about the hanger but that looks awesome! This is one of my grail frames... still gutted I missed an orange one on eBay a decade ago for £120... 🤦♂️

Hey guys! Thank you both for sharing.
An ultimate is also one of my grail frames. Dibs if you ever sell😜
Coolbreeze yours looks great, I just find them so pleasing to look at!
I am planning to actually get round to building my MKM up soon and retiring my current fixed gear setup for a while. Shame I didn’t manage to buy it with the original forks.
Will post pictures when I do although it will be a pretty standard build :)

Would it be feasible to use a clamp on brake with a 650b wheel? I guess I'd need to swap the standard drop calipers out for some long drop ones...? It'd be cool to try out but thinking I'll be better off long term sticking with 700s...
