I think I've got tonsillitis

I'm doing the 1000. Not looking forward to the midges!

I've bought a midge net but it does rather obscure vision. I have back up Avon Skin so Soft - apparently it's a good midge repellant. I can confirm it has all the negative hallmarks of insect repellant - greasy, smelly. No idea what you're supposed to use it for.

I think Smidge is the best one

That's what all the locals use

Bad luck re knee. Smart move to get the train home rather than do more damage.
Very good (but expensive) is Nichola Roberts.

She specialises in cyclists (and was going to ride the TCR as part of a pair a couple of years ago until her partner got injured - so you don't have to explain what you are doing). -

Thanks.
Any others I’m in SE.

I think you'll struggle to find another physio who's effectively combining 2 skills, bike fit and physio, also based in the SE. You'll need someone to understand cycling biomechanics, can analyse your riding position, then correct it - be that cleat fitting, etc., which is basically bike fitting, and then give you physio treatment & exercises. There was some discussion about physios / osteos in the ultra cycling thread in the last 2/3 months. Cycling physio recommendations probably warrant their own thread.

Would also highly recommend Nichola, I only went to her a couple of times but she very quickly identified a bunch of issues and gave me good practical advice and exercises to help. Will go back again when less broke, but even those two short sessions have helped a lot with reducing long distance riding pain.
Edited to add - my issues were back/neck related rather than leg, but I don't doubt she'd be able to sort out knee problems too.

I actually saw her in the run up to TCR 2016 when I had knee problems. She managed to help fix it in time to make the start line.

I’d add Michael Crebbin too. I’ve used him a number of times now and he’s been very good. I believe @bluerip00 is his username

Ok thanks guys.
Just remembered I’m covered by my wife’s private medical care so might be able to get it reimbursed. -

Echo everyone else, Nichola is good and would certainly recommend.

The ditchling devil was great. So much cake.
I'm not sure how they manage to always get good weather.

Seemed like a good idea at the time to extend the Ditching Devil to get in an overnighter so I started just after 9pm on the route in reverse, aiming to back at Wimbledon for the start. Was still quite hot and luckily a pub at Shere, although technically closed at 11:15, topped up my water. There was nowhere to refill till a 24h services near Brighton. What do people do for water overnight when everywhere is closed?
The beginnings of twilight at the top of Ditching Beacon was a highlight. Got super sleepy at sunrise having started already a bit sleep deprived, and while waiting to find a grassy sunny spot to sleep nearly dozed off about 4 times. Was feeling rough with nausea too and almost already decided I wasn't going to finish the whole thing but rather see as the day unfolded. Got to the start just as the first lot where heading off. Felt better after cake and a coffee at the excellent Lu-Ma cafe. Train back from Brighton was a possible plan, so headed off again.
Was going well, but really didn't feel like going back through Surrey hills and already got what I wanted out of the ride. Plus, nice sunny day with good food and a beer in Brighton. Sorry I didn't get the 2 points for Team Audax LFGSS, but was a good ride anyway.
So many people for an audax, must be one of the biggest. Didn't see @inappropriate_bike or @GoatandTricycle, but was nice to see @Klar. I was very ready for a beer after sailing (tacking) up Ditching Beacon.
1.5x/10, would DNF again. -

Great work.
I extended it to a 300, by doing a look out towards Windsor, leaving home at 2.30am. Seeing the sun rise gently over Richmond Park and then Great Windsor Park was lovely.
As for water: I would route past 24 hour garages.

As suggested elsewhere churches with graveyards often have an outdoor tap.
LFGSS were out in force good to see,@hazzelfrazzel @luft @inappropriate_bike @seager @mustardbeak even if he didn’t recognise me with glasses and lid on.

Anyone here riding the Fort William 1000 or Inverness 1200 rides?
I'll be there for the 1000 as prep for PBP and as a tick against one of the requirements for the Brevet 5,000 and Brevet 10,000 awards.
I'll be on my ISEN.

Lolz it took me a second, you were in full pro mode!
Sorry to read about your knee hope you get it sorted before TCR.

It's always a good event and never disappoints, it was my forth time and slowest yet (fixed this time though), rode it with a good friend who I don't get to ride with as much as I'd like so it was a grand day out with a few beers at the end.

Cool, will look out for you.

Haha no worries.
Yeah fingers crossed!! I have an appointment with the highly recommended Nichola on Wednesday.
Could also be worthwhile to check for a change in Q-factor then, as I think it were sideways adjustments which did me in.
