  • The seat lug I bought for the frame I’m about to build has a 6mm through hole with 10mm recesses for the heads for the seat binder bolt.

All the binder bolts I can find have an 8mm shaft.

    None supply the head diameter.

    So I have 2 questions,

    1. If you have an 8mm shaft seat binder, could you measure the head diameter for me?

    2. Is my best option to drill the lug out to accept an 8mm shaft?

I could turn the heads of an 8mm shafted binder bolt down a bit if they are over 10mm but I guess then I’d be reducing the prominence of the shoulder.

Other option would be to use a standard bolt on one side and turn something on the lathe to go on the other side but I don’t have any way to broach an Allen key fitment into it so it’d have to be either be oversized, sticking out the recess in the lug in order to have spanner flats I could grip or I’d have to braze it into the lug.

Feel bad for tagging you in this @mdcc_tester because I think I do so in most of the things I post in this thread but figure you’re the most likely to be able to suggest a solution.

You should feel bad for tagging anybody in a thread which they obviously already follow, since it needlessly clutters their time line. The only thing worse is replying to a comment and tagging the poster (e.g. @M_V ) in a thread they already follow, since that gives them three separate notifications 😀
