  • yes, but as it's a business I'm not sure it's the same rules as residents. I'll have to check next week

  • On first glance my lupins seem to be doing well but on closer inspection the bottom flowers are dying. The weather's been hot but there's been heavy rain too so I haven't been watering. The ground is still moist now. I've poor drainage and I'm worried they might be water logged. Any advice?

  • That's just how they die off I think. Looks like the slugs and snails have paid a visit.

  • That’s just how lupins go over? They’ll start forming seeds soon, so will need dead heading. Wait until they’re about the spike is about two thirds dead and then chop off at the base. You should get further spikes that way.

  • I thought that but the Orchid Primrose beside it is in the same shape. Have they both just had their time?

  • Nice one, will do

  • Yep, they don't last for ever!

  • I'm new to this! Just making sure I wasn't killing them. Delighted to learn I'm not

  • They look wonderful btw. Good work.

  • Thanks a mill, have definitely caught the bug but have no idea what I'm doing!

  • They do look great. I love a lupin, unfortunately so do the slugs.

  • You just have to wind copper wire around the stems and connect it to your power outlet.

  • I'd be impressed if you manage to kill your lupins. They will probably outlive us all...

Ps. Here in Sweden lupins are considered an invasive species and should be dealt with accordingly. I've spent hours digging up the ones in our allotment, fuckers got some serious roots.

  • Can anyone ID this poo?

  • I'm currently in a losing battle against Horsetail weed. Does anyone have a magic tip?

  • You need this book;

  • Hard to tell - could you provide a more close-up, high resolution photo?

  • taste it

  • Circling back to slugs/snails. Was doing a bit of gardening this weekend and found some beer traps that were probably set about 6 weeks ago. They were very successful it seems, but also successful in attracting flies and the smell was horrendous once disturbed. Think I may not do beer traps again...

Oh and it was wheat beer so maybe that contributed to the foul smell...

  • Have read that beer traps attract slugs from quiet a distance, slugs that wouldn't be bothering you otherwise. If they don't drown in the beer, they take a drink then go on a drunken rampage on your plants!

  • Sorry I've already washed it away.

It's a repeat offender, so I'll be sure to use my DSLR next time and link to a raw image.

  • Same. That's what has put me off them.

  • There is no magic tip. You just have to keep pulling it up, and remove as much of the root system as you can. Over and over and over. Eventually it might rescind.

It's one of the oldest plants on the planet apparently, you can see why it's lasted so long.

  • I feel your pain.

We have tonnes of bindweed. We used to be better at pulling it but just haven't had the time. It's such a destructive fucker too.
