I was expressing these thoughts a short while back to a recently retired junior not quite pro yet, who said he thought that actually most were riding clean these days, and that times generally had come down - certainly the current times are not world record standard. Perhaps that says something.
I have other crap theories btw.
(oh shit...edit... I'm not suggesting for a minute that O'bree or Boardman's hours were done on the sauce)
