Basically:
SRAM Force 22 crankset (2x):
SRAM Force 1 crankset (1x):
Both have the same 'direct mount' system to mount the spider - obviously, the 1x has a spider suited to a single chainring, the 2x has a spider suited to mounting two chainrings.
Now, you can buy 'direct mount' chainrings from other brands that are meant to fit the SRAM 1x cranks, such as this WolfTooth one, fully replacing the spider:
Can I just mount this on the 2x crankset as well, seeing as the system is the same, and end up with the correct chainline for a 1x system?

No worries.
Just in case it wasn't clear, what I meant is that 9 speed Shimano mtb and road derailleur and shifters / brake cable pull are largely compatible/interchangeable. I have a feeling a mtb shifter requires a mtb front derailleur, but you might want to double check that.
Same goes for SRAM with their mtb and road 10 speed.
Usually people mix and match so they can use road shifters, so as you suggested something like a Tiagra 4700, or Claris would be an easier / better option if you want flat bars.

Ah. That I'm not 100% sure on. I assume the cranks are identical so it'd be fine...
I do know you could just fit one of these onto the inside of the 110/130bcd double spider

Thanks - I think I'll need something like 44t or larger though, and I'm not sure I like the looks of just one chainring on the inside of the spider.
But yeah, it seems the cranks are identical apart from the spiders mounted to them, so it should work.

Was thinking of possibly doing exactly this on a new build, let me know how you get on!
-
• #97682
Sure - I'm still on the lookout for parts at the moment, basically I'm building up an old road bike frame as a 1x bike. I'm curious to see how it works out myself!

Any gas people on here?
If I turn my oven on, the gas flows, the igniter clicks once, but doesn't ignite. Then the gas just flows. I assume it's a safety valve that's gone - will this be expensive to fix? -
• #97684
Sounds like the igniter is broken no?
-
• #97685
I thought if the gas didn't light, the flow stopped though?

10mm track hub cone nuts, where to buy?
-
• #97687
I would like to spray my 1"carbon fork the same color as my old cinelli frame - who can do this in London?
-
• #97688
You could get the whole axle assembly and just use the cone nuts?

Yeah I considered this but it's just more junk for my spare parts box

Brother in law needs Campagnolo compatible wheels for his Bianchi road bike. iirc it’s 10 speed. What’s a reasonable set of training wheels?

What hub? Sealed or loose bearings?

Sweet
Have suggested those to him

Sealed, Formula hub.

Something like these?

Just like that except without giving BLB any money

How much lateral play is acceptable in a rear wheel? QRs are done up tight but the rim wiggles side to side by about 2mm. Doesn't cause disc rotor rub or anything so far as I can tell.
-
• #97698
Ha! Had a suspicion you might say that.

Oh nice, thank you.
Not quite sure exactly what you're asking but I've had a lot of success running 1x chain rings (usually the Hope ones) on the inside position of road double cranksets (Ultegra, sram red etc). However, that only works with 42t or smaller chainrings, as otherwise you're in danger of hitting the chainstays. It depends on your frame but going larger, you'd have to run them in the big ring position which would give you a worse chainline. I think it would still work but wouldn't be as ideal as you'd constantly be cross chaining.
I assume the 1x direct mount spider / chainring would fix that issue.
