I laughed when I read that!
4 years ago I did the ECCA 100 a week after a 12 hour. I felt good for about 20 miles, then I gradually felt worse and worse. I shold have stopped like you did but I made myself continue. It was hell, just about the worst I've felt on a bike. The 50 the following week wasn't great either.
The thing with recovery time is you don't know what it is until you test it and find it is longer than you thought. Then you know!
I was a DNF on the ECCA 100 on Sunday. I made it 30 miles but was off power, pace and my head wasn't in it. I finished the TAW just over a week ago and hoped I would have hit some mad form, but it was not to be.
