  • It's a rare treat, I don't make a habit of going out for afternoon tea all the time.

Compared with say the Ritz (£58) it's quite cheap.

  • 108 Brasserie has started doing a vegan afternoon tea as well.

    https://108brasserie.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/03/108-Pantry_Afternoon-Tea-sPRING-2019-final-Online-vegan-only.pdf

Haven't tried it yet but have had their non-vegan version a few times in the past and it's always been good.

  • Compared with say the Ritz (£58) it's quite cheap.

    +£5 for specialty tea
+£23 for a glass of champagne
    +tip

So a hunnerd for tea and cakes in a room full of cunts. You have got to be fucking joking...

  • Yup! Absolute piss take.

  • Yea that's a piss take... my GF treated me to lunch at Gauthier for my birthday... now that was worth the money, never had food like it!!!! They change their menu four times a year so they cook seasonal

  • Adding to the list

  • seconded. had an amazing lunch their with friends

  • I'm looking for a vegan alternative to leather for making shoes.
I'd like something that's not petrochemical based. Is there something coir, hemp or bamboo based (or similar)?
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks

  • What's that stuff that Brooks make their vegan saddles out of?

  • To answer my own question: it's vulcanized rubber plus nylon or cotton.

  • If you're ever in Newcastle, Little Green Social has got your back. Incredibly tasty food at incredible prices.

  • ..ooohh, summer rolls! I have to do those again, thanks for the reminder!

  • Just dug out the recipe I was using (once you've done those once or twice you can go freestyle pretty much, yet this really is a good starting point - pickling stuff for them for example is a-maa-zinggg)

Here's also a photo from that site that should get you excited:

  • I’m exited

  • One idea was a treated/waxed canvas type of thing

  • Why, a username change! Whatever next? "Bratkartoffles"?

  • just had a nice dinner at bonnington cafe. somehow i'd not been before! a very wholesome evening.

also made ms cupcake's chocolate PB snap bars and riffed on the vanilla sponge to make it coffee and walnut for alzheimer's society cake day:

  • I went there Sunday with a fairly big group so we tried a good portion of the menu.

Great atmosphere, staff were awesome and friendly. Interesting selection of drinks and importantly the coffee was v good (imo).

Food was tasty and filling. Loved their home made kimchi. Full English could have done with hash browns though ;-)

Will deffo go again. Thanks for the heads up

  • Ooooh, do you have a recipe for those PB crispies? I loooove them, and I've tried some recipes I've found but they always fall apart ...

  • Bratkartoffles

    Ha.

  • To celebrate, here's

My favourite way of preparing Bratkartoffles

    Needed:

large bowl with cold water, one or two large non-stick (!) pans with fitting lids.
Sharp knife and a cutting board. Clean dish towel.
    Potatoes and yellow onions.

    Preparation:

Peel potatoes, slice them, and put in bowl with water (this will leech part of the starch out).
Peel and chop onions, set aside.
    Heat pan(s) on medium-high.
Strain potatoe slices, and wrap in dish cloth.

Arrange a layer of potato slices in the pan(s), they all need to lay flat on the surface.
Put lid on and just let the magic happen (read: be a little patient).
Give them a shake every two minutes or so and flip them over once you see one side is nice and brown-ish; remember though the key here is to keep the heat medium not high and to keep the lid closed as much as possible, so don't peek every 10 seconds. The moisture in the potatoes combined with the heat will cook the slices perfectly, giving you nice and crisp Bratkartoffels instead of the soggy shit you get in your uni canteen.
When you see they're pretty much done but might do with another couple minute throw in the onions, give it all a stir, maybe add just a dash of oil and put the lid back on, to sauté / sear the onions.

    Serve with ketchup.

  • After recommending 108 Brasserie for a vegan afternoon tea up there ^^^ we tried to book one for our anniversary this month only to be told they've permanently stopped doing ANY afternoon teas as of Monday 01.07.19, vegan or otherwise. Doh!
