  • Long time lurker, first time poster.

So after quite some time it was finally time for a new bike as I had been wanting to start getting into some light CX / gravel riding / bike packing for some time now. Having relocated to the Bay Area for work last year I really wanted something local where I could work with the builder face-to-face. I have been a fan of Rock Lobster's sea foam green team bikes for quite some time and after a bit of research and a quick call to Paul, I knew he was the one. Paul has been building bikes longer than I have been alive, he is a cornerstone of the west coast CX scene and he very much believes in function over form.

Back in February I made the short drive down to Santa Cruz to discus the build and my preferences with Paul. Steel frame, disc brakes, internal rear brake routing, room for 40mm tires and Syntace thru axle dropouts were all on the top of my list. In went my deposit and my name went up on to Paul's wait list. 3 months later I get a message from Paul and after a bit of back-and-forth between Paul, myself and my fitter, we had the geometry nailed down. Less than a week later while I was off on holiday in Barcelona I received the initial photo of my nearly complete frame (not the best photo, but you get the idea). More to follow...
