Going out to Berlin early August and want to ride back , I was thinking of doing the eurovelo 2/ R1 / D3 route which all overlap. I like the idea of a way marked route so you can just plough on but am unsure about surfaces - info is that it is good but it all paved, the niceness of the ride itself and the feeling that these special paths might be a bit frustrating if busy / sedate. It came up in a guardian ten long distance routes and there are few very official websites but relatively few blogs etc
Any advice? Is it a waste? Would I be better off heading for the hills further south even if that’s meant less time on the bike?
