I'm in the US at the moment and some stretches of highway have signs saying "No engine braking". Why is this?

Engine brakes are systems in large trucks that use the engine's power to slow down the vehicle. These systems are more effective at slowing heavy vehicles than traditional friction brakes, but they can be very loud. Many municipalities ban engine braking near residential areas.

It’s the Mrs shopper bike so won’t be subject to any extreme cornering.
Currently rolling on some 23mm but I have some nice schwalbe cx 32mm in the shed.

I say chuck them on there. 23mm is rubbish. Worst that can happen is you have to change them back.

Relevant question is relevant. There's a world of difference between 13mm and 16mm internal widths, either of which might count as an unfashionably skinny rim.

@mdcc_tester ill measure the internal width of the rims. Whats the narrowest you would be happy to run 32 on?
