grab them by the throat
Maybe its cause I heard the story on the radio a few times before seeing the footage, but to me grabbing someone by the throat is this:
Not pushing someone along by holding the back of the neck.
From what I know about him, I don't think he'd treat a guy in a cocktail dress any differently.

Fairly certain he wouldn't have been trying to grab them by the throat, had it been a man and not a woman in a cocktail dress.
