  • It's hilarious watching petrol heads pontificate on this case.

"Must..blame the cyclist, but what if someone walks in front of my car.."

  • Do existing members get referral rewards? I've been meaning to join for ages (thanks for the nudge). I'm happy to click on someone's link on here, if that's applicable?

  • CTC membership also includes free insurance.

  • He's been suspended (and I think referred himself to the standards committee).

  • Pratchett would be absolutely delighted.

  • Maybe they could just not watch it?

  • Or actually watch it and then make a qualified judgement whether or not it actually lived up to their perception or what someone told them it was like?

Is this The Life of Brian debate all over again?

    Pratchett would be absolutely delighted.

    ^ and completely this

  • From watching the video a few times the description of the "violence" seems a bit exaggerated. There also seems to be a double standard, as it's hard to imagine this level of outrage had the same force been used against a man.

All that said, it isn't an MP's place to start ejecting protestors and his excuse is a load of bollocks.

  • Double standard or "go pick on somebody your own size"?

  • like most floppy cock bullies, had the perp been a man, i sincerely doubt this impotent rage filled sack of toxic shit would have had the stones to stand up and be billy big bollocks in front of all his solid gold cunt chums.

when do the assault charges land?

Fairly certain he wouldn't have been trying to grab them by the throat, had it been a man and not a woman in a cocktail dress.

  • grab them by the throat

Maybe its cause I heard the story on the radio a few times before seeing the footage, but to me grabbing someone by the throat is this:

Not pushing someone along by holding the back of the neck.

From what I know about him, I don't think he'd treat a guy in a cocktail dress any differently.

  • This throat grabby enough for you? Nevertheless, had it been someone who was likely to stick on one him, I doubt he'd have been the hardman.

  • Not really, no.

    Have you watched the footage?

  • Lol, its been ages since I encountered a web warrior! Demand all you like, sir.

  • Lucky it wasn't Mark Francois as his Special Forces training might have kicked in leaving her with a broken neck before you could say "Peaceful protest".

  • Is this really the position you want to take? That the MP who assaulted the peaceful climate protester possibly didn't grab her by the throat enough to warrant calling it 'grabbing by the throat'

  • Suppose the ‘what-if’ brigade can’t get a break here. There is indeed the double standard of treating women equal to men only when it suits, and not always, and within the confines of a patriarchal pseudo-feministic ideal. Had the person been a male, or carrying a weapon, or intent on doing harm, we’ll never know... but certainly if there was a risk of danger that was averted the throat-grabber would be hailed a hero, not a massive stain.

I don’t agree to violence against women, because I don’t agree with violence in general. I am more upset at violence toward a protestor, than violence toward a person.

Besides, maybe all of this shows the narrow-mindedness of the media and keyboard warriors; whoever said this protestor identifies as female?? How dare we assume their gender.

  • Also, grabbed by the throat sounds way more exciting than grabbed by the neck, and media needs sensation to get a click.

  • I guess it's just different perceptions from watching the same thing. To me it looks like he forcibly removed someone by trying to grab and push them out of the room.

When I think of assault, it conjures up images of physical acts that would genuinely put someone in fear of their life or safety.

As I said I don't think it was his place, or that it was handled well, but it all seems very sensationalised. I mean if you look at say Prescot Vs egg guy as a comparison, that's some serious aggression there and the dude was lucky others jumped in.
