Just a heads up, there are 4 of us brixtonians booked on the 10am train from Swindon (that's full capacity for bikes), plus two booked on the 9.46.

Ohhhhhhhh.... stooooones....
09:30 train, loads of time for Da Paolo breakfast and coffee.
From Avebury you just ride the ‘nice’ Devizes road into Swindon, turn off to go via Broad Town/Broad Hinton and into Wootton Bassett. Don’t go via Wroughton, the hill is insanely steep and fast.
So with Broad Town/Hinton into Marlborough go then Lydiard Millicent via the Hook road, then down Tewkesbury Way (or Shaw, for more relaxed route via Shaw Ridge, and cycleways), and into town.

Nice, booked on the 09:30 from Swindon as well.

I propose we drown our sorrows about the missed group-save opportunities in train beers.

My ticket being an off-peak single thingy, I could still be talked into riding back some of the way (and could give away my bike reservation to someone else)

I have all day to decide how far I want to ride back, so will play it by ear (knees)

Just to throw another variable in, you can get a train from Great Bedwin or Hungerford. From Avebury you could take in the delight of the gravel road through the savernak forest to get to either.

Also, enjoy the ride. I'm all outta brownie points but am pretty sad not to be involved. Hope you see a sunrise you crazy hippies.

I have hazy, fond, memories of Great Bedwin, I think we got told to piss off from Swindon once (too many bikes) and rolled to Pewsey on the point of collapse.. only to be told to piss off again! GB saved us in the end..

Ha. I was there the other day, passing through on my mountain bike. Its a lovely if gammony village.
Nice pub, a canal and the guy in the little shop is good for a long chat about anything and everything. He told me he had big plans to offer hot pizza. I feel I owe him this publicity.

Little Bedwin has a lovely post office shop that will do hot pastries for tired cyclists, would return.

All make it ok? How was Swindon? Any pics?

We've all gone our separate ways. Swindon was as expected but the sun was out so it could have been worse.

I’m not sure which one I like the least of Swindon or Milton Keynes. Probably Milton Keynes.

What a great ride.
I'm going to either wing it on the Swindon train, or ride towards Newbury/Theale/Reading for more trains.
