  • Cool. Thanks

  • Pretty good, really. No drama. I think it benefits from being well-lubed. Using an older XT double mech to get the right cage shape, don't think the CX70 mech on the Salsa would cut it. And no idea how much of it is the Middleburn rings, they're stiff af

  • Yeah, Jagwire compressionless. Definitely wouldn't work mixing the mtb calipers with road levers without it.

I'm consistently surprised how good they are if you get the disc really true and set the fixed pad nice and close

  • Sounds like no complaints about setting up road levers + mtn BB7? Compressionless and slick cables is the shit.

  • Oh no, it was definitely the hardest part of the build (bar dynamo cabling). I've probably spent at least an hour fettling them.

  • Just an hour!
Thought the cable pull ratios were incompatible. Does this setup provide enough modulation?

  • Should provide more modulation, as you get more leverage. You can pull the levers right to the bar from the bite point, about two inches, but the brakes are hella strong with even light pressure.

  • Cool. I was worried they would be too strong, don't want zero > full stop with not much in between. Good work!

  • That's the stuff labelled "pro", right?

I'm probably going to give it a go next time I change cables.
Is there enough housing for fully covered cables?

  • Yup. I got the mountain pro as I was worried the road one wouldn't have enough housing, and there was more than enough for full runs. Of course that means mtb cables, but they sit OK in the Sram brake levers.

  • According to the jagwire website, both types come with 3000mm of housing, so either will work.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question!

  • Yea this is super nice. Great find on the frame set and killer build

  • Turns out everyone was right and Thunder Burts are great tyres. Who'd have thought?

  • Still no jelly, huh?

In all seriousness tho.. very good looking bike!

  • Always got jelly on my mind. One day....

  • great tyres

Word! Looks great all stripped down like that

  • I know right. Shame it pissing rains all the time here.

Now has shiny GBs. I don't hate it

The Thburts are currently sitting on my coffee table at 60 psi being shaken every time they spring a leak. I think they might finally be holding air

  • Needs jelly beans. Really nice. But it needs the beans

Edit: how about getting some vinyl in the right colours and cutting them with scissors? That way it is reversible if you don't fancy it

  • Engraved beans on the GB guards

  • What size tyres + guards? Happy with clog-clearance?
    It looks amazing either way.

  • Happier than I was before with the GKs and Zeppelins. Still could be gappier, but I'm pushing the absolute limits of the frameset

  • if you had asked me before I saw this picture, I would have said silver guards would be too much.
    I'd obviously be mistaken.
    Looks even better like that..

  • Edit: how about getting some vinyl in the right colours and cutting them with scissors? That way it is reversible if you don't fancy it

I think a big part of the aesthetic appeal is the brush-stroke element of it. Won't work otherwise.

In any case it'll be sign writing paint, so it will come off if I really want

  • I thought exactly the same, and now am thinking a black powdercoat for them is maybe not so urgent
