Anyone got any experience going ghetto tubeless on older, 8 speed era mavic rims? Am I insane to even contemplate this? I want to run 35mm Schwalbe g ones and don’t have confidence in puncture protection with tubes...

I just set some old mavic a719 rims up tubless with gorilla tape.

Fuck yes this is what I wanted to hear.

I had a bit of a battle getting a set of Panaracer gravelkings on Hunt 4 season aeros this weekend gone. The tyres went on worrying easily and just refused to seat to the rim, sealant everywhere. I’ve put G-ones in these before and it was pretty much a case of rim on, sealant in and pump up. Not so much with the Panaracers...
I ended up having to seat the beads with a tube, then bringing it out and getting the valve in, followed by soapy water and the compressor, sealant in through the valve to finish.
Anyway I got there in the end and the result was fantastic on the road. Did +100km on them over the weekend at 60psi and they were a dream, no issues whatsoever. -

As an update to my lumpy GravelKing: I got round to pulling it off the wheel today, the innermost layer had separated from the rest of the tyre almost 1/3 of the way round. Panaracer don't warranty directly and passed me on to the UK distributor who also don't deal with end-user returns so it's heading back to Germany.

Why dont people by a tubless canister. Makes life simple and east.

Didn't keep. Bead jumped off.
Perhaps try the stans kit, it's meant to have a lip built on. -

Hunt use that rim. In fact all hunt alloy rim are kinlin made. Kinlin wont admit it though. Kinlin sleeve joining is pretty distinctive as are the alloys they use.

You'll never get the tyre to remain seated if you flat which means carrying a spare tube. Youll also need lots of tape and even then the bead hook may not retain the bead.

You need to fit more tape. If the tyre went on easily I assume you mean by hand. It was too loose more tape and make it a right fit and you would have less faff. See my website. I have never need a tube to get a tyre seated.
For low pressure mtb tyres at 20 psi it's possible. Anything approaching road pressures is a non no.

Rats. I guess I’ll try to find some voyager hypers and just run tubes.

my voyager hypers + tubes have been lovely for 5000km now, running on XR22t rims

Sweet as. Just need to find a set online

If you don't mind a wire bead, it might be worth looking at planet x.

Does this not apply for mtb? All my mtb tyres go on easy and seat fine (using canister).

Which one do you have?

The bonty pump / can is good.

Voyager, buy not hyper. Is there even a difference? At £8 each do I care?
-
• #2996
Ah yeah. Sorry. I bought as many of the hyper voyagers as I could handle when they were selling them.
This:
https://forum.bikeradar.com/viewtopic.php?t=13091798Suggests PlanetX may have them mislabelled at 120 tpi when they should be 30 tpi.

Dammit. Ugh. So I guess, what tyre, clincher, non tubeless does the forum recommend? Around 35mm slick or semi slick. Pascela?

Aren't Hunt alloy wheels built with Kinlin XR31T rims?
