What a great find!

Finally got my son to captain this beauty and off we trotted to Deya brewery in Cheltenham. Got a round of applause on arrival and departure. It's going to be our pub bike 2 or 3 times a year because we don't get to see each other so often. That's unless I can find another 6'3" fearless, ale loving captain. Form a tall queue....

Totally what I was after when I found the 16” wheeled MCL.

It’s a Micro. The Tandem Shop on the Old Kent Rd back in the 80’s used to sell them, they did solos and tandems. Very short and a bit skittish, but fun. Good luck with it!

• #1008
Yep. It’s an MCL/Micro Tandem, did you try one out before??
I can’t find any proper info online about it, only about Radnall’s folding bike he made. This one was sold from a shop in Cheltenham - conveniently halfway between where I live and where I bought it.

My brother just picked up this Motobecane tandem in France for me to bring it back to London.
Looks like it needs work so will be asking questions soon!

Has anybody here had any dealings with JD Tandems?
The GF and I are considering buying our first tandem after having tried a couple of very succesful and grin inducing rides - but sadly the second hand market is poor and local dealers are scarce here in Denmark, so we'll probably have to buy online and have it shipped.
Any thoughts and suggestions welcome. -

Had a look on their web page.
I'm quite keen on disc brakes and their second hand models seem to be out of our budget anyways.. -

Think of it as an excuse to fit 90s -tastic Magura HS33s!
Joke apart that Santos with a Rohloff at £1250 seems great value (if they can ship it).
-
• #1014
Man, that Santos looks awesome, and just around our budget. A shame that it's too big to fit my stoker :(
Realistically we're looking at the Dawes Discovery Twin (1200£ + 250£ shipping to DK):
Orbit Routier (1250£ + 250£ shipping to DK):
And at a stretch the Ridgeback Panorama (1800 £ + whatever shipping tandemshop.com charges) (but that's partly because I'm a bike tart that think it looks nice):

Just fit a kid stoker kit on the Santos...
I'd steer clear of the Dawes (it's very basic). Also you could get 1905 to special order the Ridgeback for you? -
• #1016
Digging in to the spec sheets, it does indeed look like the Orbit represents better value.
Have sent a message to 1905 to inquire about a special order. Would mean we could ride it back to Odense from Copenhagen, which would be nice. -

The ridgeback has discs though and can run both road bars and a flat bar setup.
In other news. I bought a tandem yesterday. It’s purple.

The Thorn that was on DBA?
I thought it looked like a good bargain.Upgrading to a disc brake on the front of the Orbit costs just 150£, which I thought was all right.
We're going ahead with ordering through JD Tandems. -

This comment is rubbish without a picture.
Purple tandems are the best tandems, I feel. -

A nice and cheap Bob Jackson on ebay
-
• #1021
That’s a very fair comment.
Here’s how it was when I bought it.
It’s a kiddieback version, the kids are already so excited and fighting about being the stoker.Plenty of small changes going to happen, I’ll keep this thread updated.
It has rohloff and is in very good condition and cost 600gbp. I thought that was fair.

I should keep an eye out for something like this. The lady is so damn short, even a bmx felt too big for her.
-
• #1023
You're absolutely right. Seemed like very good value, but in the end not what we were after. Good to know it went to a good home.

I bought a Ridgeback from Biketart recently (this). I've no idea if they will ship to wherever you are (I'm in the UK), but dealing with them was easy and the bike arrived in the usual state (had to install wheels, handlebars, etc.).
After half a dozen rides the gears needed adjusting, the usual fettling, but we are having fun and completed the Isle of Wight Randonee as our third outing.

£600 is more than fair, I bet just having S&S couplers fitted costs the previous owner more than that.
Thanks! I contacted the bike shop from that sticker on the tube, and the guy tried to buy it off me! Said his grandfather would have sold it, he’ll ask his dad tomorrow if he remembers anything about the bike.
