Prompted by the rather lovely Orange P7 that has recently been listed, here we have a fillet brazed 853 Dawes Edge mtb that I bought, fiddled with and then rode a grand total of 5 times!
I have changed the wheels to a pair of Mavic 221 'Citron' rims with Parallax hubs, switched out the canti brakes for Avid SD 5s (but have kept the originals if you want to convert them back), popped on a pair of Schwalbe Big Ben 2.2" tyres (in rather fetching brown) and a roughly matching brown Turbo saddle. I have also popped on a pair of mudguards (photo with the mudguards to follow).
Here is the original eBay ad: "Custom built Dawes Reynolds 853 steel framed mountain bike 18 seat tube c-t and 22 inch top tube c-c
I think the frame might have been resprayed as it is as new , there is a serial number from 1994 . A mixture of equipment Sachs twistgrip for the 8 speed rsp fat body cassette hubs , Deore front and rear mechs and chain set and I think brakes, they are Shimano but have no model designation ,please note there is a circular scratch to the outside of the rh crank. Avocet O2 chrome moly tubed seat , TTT titanium stem and Ritchey forcelite bars . Unbranded seat pin . As there is no dirt inside the base of the fork column tube I would safely say this bike has never been ridden since it was assembled ,the cassette and chain appear unused, but there is definite signs of slight wear on the chain rings.the top eyes on the seat stays attest to it being a Dawes frame , all other information is derived from the badging on the equipment and frame and is used for description only ."
I paid £300 for it and spent a little on the extras (I guess the wheels are an upgrade, but not expecting to profit from that!). It is in extremely good nick, but I'm not a big fan of twistgrip shifting and they could probably do with looking at (shifting is ok if a little 'tight' and I have been able to shift into every gear).
I'm looking for £250 (hopefully), which seems ok to me (but stand to be corrected). Pick up from Battersea (SW8) evenings/weekends or I could ride it to work near Holborn (WC1X).
Any q's just let me know. Dibs followed by a swift PM seems fairest.
