  • Thankfully I don't get many of those, helps a bit that I'm so tucked away from everyone else that by the time they have dragged their wounded to me they usually don't get hung up on price, just the 'when'.
I think a lot of customer's I get are quite aware that they need to support their local otherwise their going to have to go further afield.
Found a few times its cheaper for me to buy some of the less common components from amazon and others even including shipping + adding extra faff time for dealing with their delivery people than it is to buy from UK distribution.
A pound shop nearby had a box of genuine shimano SPD-SL yellow + blue cleats for a quid a pair (inc vat), bought quite a few of them! Certainly cheaper than the £10+vat they are from the UK rep.

  • Bargain cleats, would have bought the lot. It’s more on p&a than service, people getting their knackered hybrids serviced are generally happy with retail on their 8 speed chain and cassette. Things like locks, tyres, luggage, pedals we struggle. Aside from Brompton stuff which avoids being price shagged online (at least for now). It’s crazy sometimes when a mech hanger is £20-30+vat from a distributor or £6 with vat and next day shipping on eBay.

  • “Most annoying independent”.

  • Oh dear. Corporate culture, eh?

  • Ha! I remember that. Good 'ol Sean. Never a dull moment or email. Sense of humour of a brick.

  • Fecking independents, getting in our way..

  • What did your last slave die of, Sean?

  • You working for Evans now?

  • Nah the conversation had drifted.

  • Lol Sean.....Yo, @edscoble when you left, did you have an trouble getting money that was owed to you?

  • I didn’t, I was full times and left before August, before they went into administration due to HO cock up.

  • What did your last slave die of, Sean?

Quite a lots left the company to the point that they’re offering mechanic £1,000 to stay between April to September 2018.

  • Sean, have a word with yourself

  • Why is everybody calling Ed 'Sean'?

  • Not sure if it makes it better or worse, but Sean’s kid worked in a store for quite a while at one stage. I imagine he never escaped.

  • Did you get your full years holiday pay? They're saying I haven't accured enough, even though Cascade says have 160 hours....

  • I used up my holiday before I left.

Was planning to leave after seeing many warning signs despite the offer of staying until September to get a £1,000 bonus.

  • I presume Cascade is the system that tracks it.
Does it increase throughout the year or always show 160? Because that’s equivalent to 20 daysish which would be your whole years allowance assuming you continue to work for the whole year. Employers owe you holiday pay or the time when you leave but pro rata ie half of it if you leave now and your company goes jan 1st to dec 31st since we’re half way through the year.
My company starts the holiday year in March so I wouldn’t get much holiday pay if I left now

  • just take any holiday you have after the day you plan to leave

  • Never increases, it was show 224 on the 1st jan, and since then I've booked and used some. So in my eyes, I have that allowence to use as I wish, but they're saying I don't have any as I haven't accrued it, then why the fuck is showing? It's been a while since I was an employee, so I don't really have the slightest where I stand with this.

  • That's 28 days off which is pretty generous!

If you do leave mid way though, it'll be prorated

  • That's 28 days off which is pretty generous!

28 days is the legal minimum, but that already includes public holidays. (So it is sometimes expressed as 20 days + 8 public holidays.)

Including public holidays the UK average is 33-34 days per year.

  • Don’t forget to add mandatory holiday on Boxing Day.

  • Obviously generous IF excluding public holidays...
