In that case I’m off to troll the Belle and Sebastian thread then! 😉
“ I couldn’t afford that limited edition first pressing of Tigermilk so I bought a Coldplay album and put a Belle and Sebastian sticker on it. This is fine, right?”

Couldn't find one :)

buy a replica. when you hear that cheap movement ticking across the room you'd wish you hadn't :)
for the money of a good replica you can buy a hamilton or an oris or several other brands with better quality control. a rep its a hit or miss.
anw whatever, bottom line is you know its a fake -

We reissued Tigermilk, on better vinyl than the first time round.

I may have my dates confused . I think I had had a cassette of tigermilk c.1998. That re-release was a big deal to us at the time :)

Ha
What's your opinion?

I'll stick with my replica Coldplay version, thanks. Most people have never actually heard Belle and Sebastian's music, so when I play my copy to them it's not like they'll notice.

Not enough clocks in here. Georgian bracket clock which I’m picking up from Edinburgh. Has alarm function. Yes, I realise the time isn’t the same as on my watch.

I really like this... I want to buy one...and in a year's time i'll have a drawer full of fucking watches like I have a garage full of fucking bikes and my wife will hate me even more!

Probably an upgrade in their listening experience tbh

And another great microbrand!

Don't wear a fake to impress someone. Wear real. Remember... Steel is real.
It might be repulsive, but someone might honestly disagree with fakes (as you've seen) and judge you for it.
Also fakes kill seals...

I’m very lucky, Mrs underuser wasn’t into cycling when I met her, she’s now got eight bikes here including two Roberts and a few Ibis, watch front she’s got two nice jlc reversos now.

I bought a fake submariner in Bangkok.. my colleague had the same (genuine) model so we had a good look at the two together — on the wrist they were basically indistinguishable ... I don’t wear it now because I’m not a Rolex guy anyway (my tastes and budget are misaligned) —if anything it has just caused me to question the legitimacy of many of the watches I see being worn - especially subs and luminors which were everywhere in Bangkok.

I’m quite happy with my ‘genuine gold colour’ Casio with authentic patina tbh.
The concept of making a decision based on someone else’s watch is pathetic - are the rich and powerful really that insecure?

I’ve just spent a couple of hours down a rabbit hole researching different versions of repro explorer 1s. Will probably order one in the morning for a knock around.

Prettiest Rolex ever the Explorer imo, tempted to sell my old Sea Dweller to fund one.

Just chiming in on the fakes vs real... The car dealer that I just purchased my new car from had a fake omega Speedmaster on. I had my real one on. I didn't say anything, he was young and trying to make an impression or fit in with his older colleagues. It actually made me want to buy from him. If the fake gave him confidence, then so be it. It looked good! I think the people that worry about fakes are the ones that worry what other people might think.
I am conveniently ignoring the moral issue of ripping off the genuine item though.
My particular watch journey was a bunch of cheap Seiko watches until my wife bought me my Speedy. I wear it nearly everyday and love it. Not sure a fake would feel the same. But as a fashion item I don't mind . End ramble ...
Edit: does that make me sound smug? Murkey area, maybe fakes are best avoided.

I personally can't understand why someone would wear a fake watch when they could have a beautiful Seiko 5 for so little money, to be completely honest I'd be more impressed with that gold Casio up there than any fake, you don't have to be wealthy to own an interesting/classic watch.

This discussion over fake watches is very interesting and there have been a lot of theories and reasons given for buying one which I hadn’t considered.
Currently I have a skelf in my ass from sitting on the fence on this topic. From reading the last few posts, I have realised that ownership MAY be based on a person wanting to give out a public perception of either wealth or success. But, this can only work if the person who notices the watch can identify that it is a fake.
More opinions please.
