  • I've been riding 140mm rotors front and rear for the last 18 months and not had any issues, including lots of descending in the Dolomites and the Brecon Beacons.

  • De stickered rims and a level front rack would really set it off.
    Good looking build regardless!

  • Destick is not possible. Unfortunately, the rear rim stickers become one soul with the rim (damn) and the halo is painted.
After the winter (yes we are still in winter, isn't?) I might find the will for a rad paint job.

    Front rack is now sorted.

  • Cheers!

I know - they'd probably look nice & neat on an integrated mount without any adapters but this is defo not the most elegant solution! The rotors came with the wheels so I decided to work with them & see if they were any good before swapping things round - they should be fine in theory as i'm not overly heavy & this bike won't see any epic mountain descents.

Popped the pads out there to check & they're looking a bit glazed, the rotors were a bit scored too so that won't have helped either - everything's now been given a good rub down with wet & dry so hopefully there'll be some front end braking on the way home as i'm planning to leave work early & turn an 18 mile commute into about 30 to give this a bit more of a test run.

@hoops - reassuring, cheers - in retrospect I should have clicked when the rear was more powerful than the front...

  • Nice - those the matt bluemels? I need 'guards for mine but can't stomach £££ for some fancy alloy ones...

  • yes they are.
    paid 24.99 posted from ebay

  • Howdy Folks ,

Anyone can confirm that Ill get a pair of 47mm wtb horizons 650 db onto a CDF frame (2018) with the stock steel fork ?

  • That's understandable. I've never ridden anything other than 160mm. Looking forward to trying a tandem this weekend with 203mm rotor up front.

  • Clean for once, so I took a pic. Goes like a tank, but bloody reliable.

  • Spam alert: my Volare 853 is for sell here.

  • Currently considering an XS Datum frameset for my partner. Not knowing too much about recent tech is there any reason why i'd regret the slightly dated QR/15mm TA over 12mm TA front and rear? Only comparable option we've found that has 12mm is the Synapse carbon and i'd really rather not buy a full bike.

This'll mainly be used on the road.

  • TA is 'nicer'.

Have TA rear and thru axle front on the talbot that's been thrashed to shit off road and on road. Slipped once. Replaced with a better QR.

TA is easier to get wheel straight etc etc, but I've never had a problem. And I have TA front and rear on two other bikes.

  • Day 1x10 still delivering the goods.

  • Depends: 12mm: newer, hip road bike standard.
QR & 15mm: loads of cheap parts, 15mm has been a mtb disc standard for almost a decade now and theres loads of good longlasting hubs for that. for QR too, obviously. :) So for a DIY wheelbuild, go for QR and 15mm, gonna be way cheaper!

  • @cake @c-racer cheers both. I have a pair of kinlin disc rims on DCR q/r hubs with Ultegra skewers, the q/r rear end saves at least one conversion. I know the DCR hub can def be converted to 12mm, not so sure on 15mm so might have to do a hub swap. 15mm is also appealing as i have a 15mm axle holder for my MTB on my car rack so this would work on that.

I wouldn't choose to go q/r on the fork again but i don't think the rear will be much of a concern.

  • @amey @PhilDAS thanks for these posts, picked up frame yesterday, good nick but paint tired, probably get it powdercoated either clear sparkle or dark grey metallic. Will most likely only build it after my tour in sep/Oct but excited already.

  • I have just sent off my Fugio 853 frame to get painted, very excited to see it when it's done!

  • What colour you gone for?

  • @TM A dark purple with a gloss lacquer, RAAL 4007, if you're interested

  • Sounds tasty!

  • Also, Genesis have offered to send me a head badge, for free I think, so worth hitting them up if you wanted that too.

  • Nah reckon I’ll get something custom done .

  • I'll be selling my 56cm Day 1x10 soon :(

Should get a sale thread up next week
