Get her to try an iPad in a shop so she can decide how the screen keyboard is. It sounds like exactly the right thing given what you’ve said it will be used for. My opinion is that the screen keyboard is fine for all the standard iPad things, and the keyboard covers are actually pretty good, again, my opinion (not touch typing fluently, nor writing long reports etc.).

New MacBook keyboard wasn’t as bad as I feared

Not actually what you asked for, obviously, but a Chromebook would also be worth a look for a lower price alternative.

That was going to be my suggestion also

I once did some work at an agency where the receptionist had the trash can Mac Pro.

Thank you all for your feedback!
@JonD ..yes, getting her to try one of those covers is a good idea; I'm already sure she won't like on-screen
@aggi ..yea, I will look into those / Windows laptops as well. Figured it should be mac for ease of use, yet wasn't aware just how expensive the MacBooks and Airs still are, even the old / used ones! Probably just too much money for a bit of browsing and replying to an email every now and then!

I use the ikea one. No idea if it's better or worse than anything else, but at least it looks ok.

Quick question for the hive mind. Hotdesk iMac at work has died. Most of us were only using it as a slave screen. Boss doesn’t want to shell out for an apple monitor. What would be a good alternative at about 30inches. We mostly do music, no design or video editing, all have Apple Macs. Cheers for any advice.

All of the Dell Ultrasharp 30-inchers throughout the generations have been solid panels, so long as you don't need perfect colour accuracy

We’re big fans of the LG 27” 4K screens, it has USBC charging and acts as a USB hub so you overall avoid dongle gate.
Picked up 50 or so and they’ve all performed well in a design department.

The Old 27" Ultrasharp was exactly the same panel as the Apple Thunderbolt... But with added shit anti-glare coating that made is unusable for almost anything...

Yeah like, it just doesn’t work, I think something installed and now it doesn’t have enough storage space..

What do you mean "It just doesn't work"
It doesn't switch on?
It switches on but MacOS doesn't get to the desktop?
It gets to the desktop but then freezes and you can't use it.
It gets to the desktop, you can use it but it's a bit slow?
Can you hear anything clunking or clicking as it's going (a sign an old disk might be failing/failed)How old is it?
And what happened before. Was everything absolutely fine and then one day it went to shit, or has it gradually been getting slower over a number of months and you've just decided to sort it out now.
Try to help the people that're trying to help you. 'My interwebz is broked' is no use.

- It switches on and runs with no bad sounds.. its basically just really slow thats all.. but so slow that deleting anything is pretty much impossible ie it freezes then comes back to life..

Looking for a really light-duty sofa-mac for my mum.
It will basically be used for browsing and email and streaming music to a bluetooth speaker.
Thought of getting her an iPad but thought both on-screen keyboard as well as those keypad-covers will annoy her (she's touch typing fluently on regular keyboards), then thought about an Air, but heard a lot of you complaining about the "butterfly" type keyboards (they're the same as the ones in the new MacBook pros, right?). Also a bit over budget really.
How about an old Air? Do they have motherboard / graphic card breakdown issues like the pro's as well?
Any feedback / suggestions appreciated.
