don’t get me started on Eames Chair “replicas”
Yeah - let the people that died 30+ / 40+ years ago profit from something they designed 70 years ago.

The bottom line is, if you buy the knockoff it’ll just be a bit shit. If you like the design just save up a bit longer and buy the original, avoid the nagging feeling you’ve got a second rate copy and the guilt of pretending intellectual property has no value.

@TW - Blimey. Let’s not have this discussion my friend 😉

intellectual property has no value
It absolutely does. It should be rewarded, and protected.
But maybe not until the heat death of the known universe.
Anyway - I thought designers subsisted on exposure alone?

Any suggestions on how much it costs to have a property assessed for rebuild value (late Victorian terrace, split into two flats with a loft conversion) and who would do it? Is it possible to work out yourself?
Insurance quotes keep on creeping up year on year and part of the reason is they keep pushing the rebuild value up. If it's a cheap thing to do then it may be worth it to bring the insurance costs down.

Ours too, nothing has changed (not even rebuild cost) WTF. It’s not even a creep this year but near enough 20%.

I used the RICS Rebuild calculator: https://abi.bcis.co.uk/
You have to create a log-in but it's free.

Anyone know about bifold doors? Specifically, the standard height of 2.1m, does it include a standard theshold cill in that, or does that add extra height?
Am trying to figure out what size opening I should design into my garden office.

Should be able to get tech docs from a manufacturer's website. Solarlux are good.

What do people estimate the extension costing - same as the house?
-
• #27967
Half the cost, as a rule of thumb. But it really depends on size, materials, level of finish, etc.

Would anyone care to recommend a company for building and contents insurance? I'm presently with Zurich, with whom I've been very pleased, but who are leaving the market.
I'd like to cover art/bikes/instruments/jewellery under the policy, so am particularly keen to hear suggestions from anyone who has arranged this.

In the same situation, ended up going with Halifax. Comparative cover (declared bikes/jewellery etc) came out cheaper than Zurich after £50 cashback is paid after 70 days.

I went with Churchills for no good reason other than it was the cheapest. They were fine with my bikes / watches. No experience on the payout though.

Same. They have a hard limit for total value of bikes though.

I was just looking up Aviva insurance reviews since my dad had a good experience with them after a break in, he has it via M&S. Online reviews are very up and down...
Need to change mine after 5 years steady increases from Barclays. Do I have to wait until next renewal? -

Is it worth getting contents insurance alongside building insurance? First home so wanting to get it all sorted
-
• #27974
Yes
-
• #27975
yes, you can sometimes get a better deal if both are with the same provider
