I think this is it? I dunno if it started on time. Looks like @rhb is comfortably silver, amazing effort, especially with what sounds like a mad-tough first day. Only 2 golds, both went north too.

Yeah looks like that’s the full thing. Bonkers effort going over 110km. Big hats off to our guy!

Great pics from Long Duddon @nefarious, hope it sets you up well for your taper time & race.
Thanks for all virtual cheering it does help motivate!
Needless to say I'm pretty fucked. Finished near Slaidburn realised I was in the back of beyond so had lunch in cafe then hiked on to Clitheroe to catch the train. Nearly 9 miles, 1000ft upwards & 3hrs later I made it with a 55 min wait so headed to pub to get warm.
So tired, I am fighting micronaps. Great event, happy with 10th and perhaps a shot at the most elevation prize... lost focus yesterday a bit (see post) also lost my way a few times & on reflection shouldn't have changed my route on the fly.
My legs were good enough for running long downhill descents today so progress was good to the finish and I "caught" a few others in term of final distance covered.
Just gotta stay awake 2 more hours then I can pass out at home!
Edit: I recorded 7 separate gpx files over the race... looks like I went ~98 miles to hit ~68. Ooooof.

Mate, that sounds so surreal. Also, I forgot the distance was as the crow flies - 49 mile days b2b is fucking mental.

great effort, well done!
I was happy with a 50 mile week! enjoy your beer, you have absolutely deserved it

I've just caught up with this on your atrava. That's an amazing effort. Congratulations.
Hope you got some decent rest last night and don't have to work today. I thought my legs were bad today - yours must be destroyed.

That’s some next level punishment, chapeau fella.

don't have to work today
This was my partners first thought too! Seriously well done, we're both so impressed

Thanks all. I booked half day at 8.30am off to soften the pain. The hardest bit of today has been short term concentration! Walking ok, will have done about 3 miles today to & from Tram.

Dear all, anyone interested in a free copy of Issue 1 of Run For Your Life? I will post for free to you, UK addresses only. I would also prefer to pass it on to someone who has only been running for four months or less, as it's a nice mag/zine with inspirational interviews of normal people (i.e. not athletes) who got/fell into running for various reasons.
https://magculture.com/run-life-1/
If you're interested, dibs for it on here, and then PM me your full name & address.

Woo, new mile pb (I don’t I have enough running friends so I’m just gonna have to share it here instead).

Congrats!

Got my full gpx from racedrone, looks good all my sections linked together.
Also found I was 3rd in the ascent category, only 3 of us went over 3000m. Hindsight being 20-20 if I'd made better use of my time and got through the next climb before Clitheroe within the 48hrs I'd have won the ascent category.... maybe next time!

What are people's thoughts on gym work for legs, and how to schedule this as part of a weekly running program?
I did legs at the gym on Monday, and could still feel it yesterday, when I spectacularly failed to complete an intervals session.

It’s never legs day at the gym, have some self respect- massive arms, tiny legs.
-
• #20718
Fuck knows. I can't fit it in anywhere in the week, always seems too close to my weekend or wednesday ride

What are people's thoughts on gym work for legs,
Never done any, legs like matchsticks.

I have been thinking about this too. What I've read says 4-6 reps, 3-5 sets, fairly heavy (80% 1RM). Don't need to do many different exercises, squats, deadlift, lunges and calf raises.

I have the same question actually. I've always struggled to fit leg day into my running schedule. I'd ditch leg day if it wasn't pretty important for my mountaineering training.
Whilst I don't have a full answer I suspect the partial answer is to just suck it up and run on tired legs. That and plan leg day for before a rest day. For me, leg doms tends to be far worse when starting a new program so it does get a little easier once my body adapts a little.
Leg day was yesterday for me and today's run was awful. Hurt sitting on the bog this morning FFS.

I've read about doing gym work after a hard session as your legs are shredded anyway. Never tried it though! I think I'm allergic to gyms

My coach has me doing a run in the morning then strength and conditioning in the evening, or could do it after a run I guess, but usually have a rest day after. Can be torturous running the day after, and don’t fancy running the same day after doing strength training.

Sub 6 at last!
I guess it must be impossible to know what strategy to take on efm. You could easily win the ascent category if you abandoned any major distance goals, but that seems a bit at odds with the point of the race!
