100k might be 4-5hrs though, whereas 700m extra climbing over that distance wouldn't even register.

Wow ... Abdullah is motoring ... He's been preparing from what I can tell, doing lots of hill reps down here. Also recently did a thing called "Tour de Froth" or something that went from Gold Coast to Adelaide. Had a brief chat with him a few times and he's a really nice guy in person, despite is ... idiosyncratic(?) ... youtube/insta persona ...

Oh sure, I just really hate climbing. :)

Converting to pedal strokes and then counting them down monotonously is good fun. Works better while rowing though...

While the Abdullah Show is way up the road, the fastest woman so far is Lea Meszarosova, who it turns out is from London. Do we know her? She's 300 miles behind Abdullah in 11th place.

Jennifer Ziel is the next woman. "Ziel" means finish, aim, or target in German.
Then there's 'Wild Birdie', which is probably not her civilian name, who is from Yosemite.

Dunno but Abdullah was only 1s faster than me on the Ochoco Hwy, the lazy git :)
-
• #2510
Yeah, but Lea took the QOM. Do you have a QOM? Thought not.
-
• #2511
Cheers, I probably knew that she was from London at one point. Easy to forget if people aren't in every race.

I have longer hair now... can I got back and get it?
-
• #2513
No, longer hair alone doesn't cut it. You'd also have to become hippia.

If you have a head wind in Kansas it might be more favourable to take the hills.

So Abdullah is tracking at record speed (for a safety)

• #2517
TLDR. Abdullah is fast.

Choices for AZ coming up. Got go classic route hasn't he?
-
• #2519
Has to if he's gunning for the record.

As widely predicted, Abdullah's on the classic route.
He's on the last big pass, can't be more than thirty miles or so before he's on to the downhills and the flat.
About 230 miles on the nearest chaser, Keith Morical (also doing the classic route, the only other rider who's passed the point where the routes diverge).
Lea Meszarosova is still the leading woman, about 470 miles behind Abdullah.

Nearly 2000 miles for Abdullah's first week. He's matched a crazy strong start with consistency now. Hope he gets good weather over Kansas.
-
• #2523
He's still around 250 miles ahead of Keith Morical, just got through Carson City and has a long hill-less ride ahead of him.
Omar di Felice, who was second behind Abdullah for a while but had trouble with the heat earlier, is back up in fourth place.
Lea Meszarosova is still the leading woman, in 11th place overall, about 440 miles behind Abdullah.
-
• #2524
Well, Abdullah's now 300 miles ahead--obviously on easier terrain than the others right now. No idea if he has a headwind or a tailwind or neither.
Lea's moved up to 10th overall.

So far, nobody's taken the Mormon route.
Thanks, hippy. I'm surprised the Mormon route is only 760m less climbing (much though the main difficulty cut out is that last pass before getting into the plains), but I suppose as Kansas is so very flat the old route scores mainly there. I suspect that if I were to ride it (which isn't going to happen), I'd prefer an extra 100k to all that climbing. I imagine Abdullah is probably going to take the Kansas route, then.
