Is this normally the case?
Some forks have a ramped surface or "integrated crown race"
I haven't looked up your frameset to confirm that though -

Many thanks PhilDAS.
The forks do have a ramped surface & the bearing cartridge appears to seat itself there nicely. But it does move about back & forth / side to side. -

Did you buy the frame and headset together or are you swapping it from another bike? The crown race is part of the headset so I’d generally not assume to have one come with a frame. As philDAS said, some have an integrated one but if yours has play I’d guess it doesn’t in your case.

Many thanks to all.
Problem solved. It was the addition of an extra spacer that has negated any lateral movement. -

Top cap bottoming out on the steerer before the stem?
Hi
Bought a Neil Pryde Bura SL Frameset, whilst assembling the headset I noticed there was no crown race for the bottom bearing to sit on. Is this normally the case?
When fully assembled there does seem to be some lateral movement. Is there any way to minimise this.
Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
