Have you looked at the new 530 and 830? I've got the 830 and the battery is very good. Used it on Flatlands a couple of weeks ago and kept it on the whole time without charging at all and still have 17% battery at the end!

That's pretty impressive.
I've ordered the 1030 now though. I did order a 1000 a couple of years ago and sent it back as I didn't like it.
it's actually hard to know which garmin does which and their site is rubbish at explaining the difference.
some people swear by etrex, but never seem to articulate why, beyond 'AA Batteries'

Yes, the old ones are fine for sub-15 hour rides. It's only above 400km where I have to recharge.
I used to have one in miles for time trialling, when I used to do time trialling.
