I'm getting a clicking in just a single cog on my setup (and sloppy shifting in high gears ... it's functional
Are you sure! Maybe you need the WT - works perfectly!
-
• #1103
What difference would it make though? If my derailler can change into every cog now, how would the WT help?
-
• #1104
How come no wolftooth?
-
• #1105
Why?
-
• #1106
Just struck me as a cheap part and why wouldn't you try it.
So wonder if there was a reason. -

"Key to the design is the ability to maintain what they consider factory levels of chainwrap and shifting performance with most cassettes."
https://bikerumor.com/2018/03/16/run-bigger-gears-on-shimano-r9100-8000-derailleurs-w-wolf-tooth-roadlink-dm/Maybe it's worth trying out? Although I bought mine years ago so it might not even work with the new RD I have.
-
• #1108
I figured if the RD changed into every gear, why would I need to add another part.
But thinking about it now, if it alters the position to suit the bigger cassettes better, perhaps it would actually improve shifting. No idea. I might see if I can fit it tonight.

Sort of related and apologies I asked in another thread, but..
Will the Sunrace MS8 Wide-Ratio Cassette require a spacer on a road bike hub?
If so am I better off with the SunRace CSRX1? -
• #1110
I've got a new one, if the design has changed you could try, before my group set turns up
-
• #1111
There are new RoadLink DM for the new RDs. Mine is the old RoadLink, I assume what they call "Standard":
https://www.wolftoothcomponents.com/pages/roadlink-tech-pageBut it looks like mine will still work, since my bike is not Direct Mount native frameset.

It's all a bit black magic.
Now if some can answer my question :o)
-
• #1114
That's the same as mine I think, the older one.
This is the new one: https://www.sigmasports.com/item/Wolf-Tooth-Components/Road-Link-Direct-Mount-Rear-Derailleur-Hanger/IP1G

No idea about Sunrace. Easy to find out though - if the lockring doesn't hold the cassette down solid, you need a spacer!
-
• #1116
Ha simple but effective! I'll try that tonight.
-
• #1117
Have you looked at the new 530 and 830? I've got the 830 and the battery is very good. Used it on Flatlands a couple of weeks ago and kept it on the whole time without charging at all and still have 17% battery at the end!
-
• #1118
That's pretty impressive.
I've ordered the 1030 now though. I did order a 1000 a couple of years ago and sent it back as I didn't like it.
it's actually hard to know which garmin does which and their site is rubbish at explaining the difference.
some people swear by etrex, but never seem to articulate why, beyond 'AA Batteries' -
• #1119
etrex run on AA or USB, are more robust and don't rely on touch screen for interaction so work in all weathers better than the Edge units.
-
• #1120
Hmm, maybe I should get an etrex. Prefer buttons to touch screen
-
• #1121
Ha, just looked at garmin site and etrex does have touch screen!
https://explore.garmin.com/en-GB/etrex/ -
• #1122
Etrex don't display/log power (as far as I'm aware) which is a no for some.
-
• #1123
Garmin still do the Etrex 20 and 30 which don't have a touch screen.
-
• #1124
Etrex "Touch" have a touchscreen. The 30x etc don't.
-
• #1125
Yeah, think some might've done HR and/or cadence but I don't think any do power.
I use mine as a spare navigation device so don't really care if I've got power displaying if I've got to the point I'm using it, I've got bigger issues.
That was my 800 unit's job until I finally swapped the mount and started running the bigger 1000 when doing 25s last year.
