I use my 800 for commuting and my 1000 for other bikes if I can't be arsed swapping the 1030 on.
Yes, the old ones are fine for sub-15 hour rides. It's only above 400km where I have to recharge.
I used to have one in miles for time trialling, when I used to do time trialling.
That was my 800 unit's job until I finally swapped the mount and started running the bigger 1000 when doing 25s last year.
Have you looked at the new 530 and 830? I've got the 830 and the battery is very good. Used it on Flatlands a couple of weeks ago and kept it on the whole time without charging at all and still have 17% battery at the end!
