Inov8 trail running shoes
A flat pedal you like - Oneup/Hope/Superstar/DMR/whoever -

Aren't they actually just successfully targeting nodders?
Quite possibly, yes.

What pedals and shoes would you guys recommend? The long term plan is to ride multi-day rides/races.
If you have road shoes from Brand Whatever try their MTB shoes with whatever SPD pedal fits your budget. I'm a big fan of the XT trail pedal but even a single sided pedal like A520 might do.

Also looking for pedals and show recommendations but clipless... Are egg beaters any good? Kinda like the look of them.

I like them but they feel very different to Shimano and you need to be more careful about cleat set-up because the wings can destroy your shoes.

The Book of Mormon is a must see.

Triban RC 520 "Gravel LTD" looks nice.
It's Apex 1x and 650b but looks like the same hybrid brakes.

Can't go wrong with xt pedals in my (fairly extensive) experience.

Big fan of giro shoes.. have taken the Privateers through many a storm, river and my last pair did many thousands of miles before I changed for a new pair.
Shimano m530 would be recommendation, or the XT versions if you want them to look a little smarter / lighter

the mtb version of whatever road shoes you wear.

The best bit about this launch is the video. I have virtually no technical off road riding ability but sticking 2.4 tyres on a bike and riding smooth forest tracks seems pretty pointless. The absolute pinnacle of 'off-roading' they show is touching a rock.
TBH, it's not really a cause of going 2.4 equal proper off road stuff, but more about the extra comfort and grip riding 2.4 on typical gravel stuff.
Like riding slick 650b 42mm tyres on a road bike.

Great pedal choice but may I take this opportunity to shamelessly promote the #birkdangle?

Are egg beaters any good?
I am a big fan, the candys are the same thing but with a nice platform. Feel a bit more sturdy, even with carbon soles
-

I always find that candys are harder to clip into. That said, I've got scars on my shins from missing clipping into eggbeaters and gouging a chunk out of the skin
-
• #8219
you may..
save a bit of weight and just ride in the birks tho #birkenweenie -

Cheers for the recommendations everyone. Haven’t touched clipless for about 20 years so it’ll be a bit of a struggle whatever I get but will grab some egg beaters...

would love to watch you ..

We could meet for a pint and sort this out like men if you want mate?

I've got egg beaters on my fixed gear and can't complain! Just got the candy version to try out on another bike as well

Wanted to get those pedals for my commuter but my friends talked me out of it.
And I also commute in birkenstocks. I feel attacked.
Pulled the trigger and ordered a Canyon Grail. I know nothing about off-roading and these questions have probably been answered already (but this thread is 328 pages). What pedals and shoes would you guys recommend? The long term plan is to ride multi-day rides/races.
