Anyone got any suggestions for plain matt black, not too thick, not too pricey bar tape? Could also go for something with a minor speckling.

Giant Stratus Lite 2.0 is really nice

Found that the rear calliper id bought for my build has a piston that’s a bit beyond repair, so it’s gone back on hold for a bit.
Really coming along though.

Doesn't really warrant it's own thread, but I picked up this balance bike for £1 at a boot sale. Had planned to pick up a metal one at some point, but a quid and the cost of replacement bearings seemed too cheap to pass up.
The seller said the rear needed to be "tightened up"? Lol... there's no bearing on the drive side.
Gave it a quick clean and now I need to find the appropriate replacement bearings for the rear wheel. Although I think I may as well replace them all.
Other upgrades/making it a bit less princessie:
- pump / repair inner tubes
- recover the saddle with black vinyl
- swap grips for some neon green ones (or black if I can't find any green)
- remove the flowers
- look for some cool decals / stickers
- see if I can upgrade the nylon spacers for readily available metal ones.
If anyone can suggest appropriate grips it'd be appreciated.

Great bike, you're a competent mechanic for someone your age.

Gotta be Ourys since it’s brakeless with double spoks

You could make it plain and get the kid to decorate it? Might be a fun afternoon.
I fondly remember my self decorated and stickered "batman" bike. Still ranks up in my top 3 coolest bikes.

When I was 7 I had a girls open frame bike in purple so I painted it in the only paint available in the shed which was sandtex (textured masonry paint) made the bike look like a sand sculpture.

Frame looks fairly easy to take apart, so maybe give it a sand and a coat of paint to remove the flowers?

Ha! Self decorated sounds like a fun idea. Could even do one side in blackboard paint.
The only thing with Ourys is I remember them being quite large in total diameter. A flange on the outside does seem like a good idea to help keep hand in the right place.

It's so hideous I just couldn't not buy it - and it's my size too.

I bought this 1980 Koga Miyata Superwinner a long time ago to turn it into a fixed gear conversion but I thought it was too nice and I didn't feel like killing puppies so I decided to restore it.

I had one of those. They're super heavy an sluggish. Apart from novelty factors you'd be better off buying an old steel GT.

My plan is something like what you did. Novelty factors all the way, plus it was very cheap. :)

Please keep the paint, stem etc. Daft but fun.
I’d probably do ghetto 1x and stick a rack on the front.

New wheel, light, rebuilt brake caliper (never done this before) and riser bars from a 90s GT mtb.

I'm not suggesting that he takes a wider view, just a longer one :)
