Any close-ups on that double-front-brake setup?
-
• #2729
Not of mine. But it’s a pretty standard setup on most older trikes.
Here’s another Longstaff with the same design.

That's amazing - any idea what the original use was?
-
• #2732
I think its to provide 2 seprate hand brake systems on a trike where braking one or both of the rear wheels would be difficult to acheive.

If you mean the box - it was to transport the owner's dog.
It originally had drops and downtube shifters, so I think I'll convert it back.
Great fun to ride. -

See the NHS item on the news today, using cargo bikes to run organs and blood around London. One lad on a pretty tidy looking baby blue Bullitt. George Stephens I think?

So we did some work... getting a bullitt/longer bike/ double trailer into the back garden is not going to happen.
We could get them on our front Garden but would rather not have to build a second Fort Knox...
So;
Tern GSD
Rodford 20/20 big billyWhat else fits the spec;
Compact cargo
20ish inch wheels
Disc brakes
Electric - with Bosch or shimano only
Comfy for wife at 5”7 and me at 6”
2 kids + cargo - box upfront or something -

I tried a Tern at the local e-bike shop. I didn’t like the cockpit, but the actual riding was exceptional. Cockpit issue was mostly as I didn’t dare adjust anything but the seatpost. I’m 6ft and it fit me.
The assist felt seamless and I only used it on the lowest eco setting, including a small local hill, and traffic/junctions. It was the trial that made me feel like the non-electric bike was shite, because I had to ride home on the XC in the rain and immediately missed the wooshy electricky witchery.
Oh talking of the XC, don’t discount it. On the XtraCycle without electric motor I comfortably carried a “50kg” better half, and her bag for around 10 miles or so without major issue. Little people would be super easy.
I think they have developed some kind of model that has a back end you can adjust now too.

Thanks!
We are fans of xtracycle but really want to keep it as small as it can be!
The mrs loves the 20” wheel size and style that brings - she’s a Brompton lover!

Pretty sure the Tern is/was developed with XC or something? They collab’d at some point anyway, I remember reading an article when I was researching.
My XC Edgerunner does feel like a long boi when compared to a regular bike, but rides pretty close to a MTB. Probably say that Tern is your best bet.
Recently I’ve wondered how the longboi with a Clydesdale/cargo truck fork up front would look and feel.

The next big thing in London will be people-carrying cycles.
Pedal me are doing this a littleBikeworks is looking to offer this more widely. Getting people over Hammersmith Bridge, now only open for riders and walkers would be a good place to test whether people will pedal instead of bus

Used to ride a shortened one of these years back. Great for getting on two wheels as the rear drive is only to one wheel. Mine had a front drum and caliper. Did judder when both applied going downhill.
Get used to getting off the saddle and as low as possible for fast cornering. Great fun.

Cool, a six-seater.
This is pioneering work.
(Your post confused me mightily at first with 'The next big thing in London will be people carrying cycles.' :) )

You should mount that flamingo on the front end as a hood ornament.

Nice fabric "bed", did you make that too?
Also, put some cork at the ends of the tubes, you could do a lot of damage if you hit something or someone!

Yeah made the bed, the old caps have been pushed in:)
