I've just had a massive revelation: training makes you ride a bike faster.
Been doing 2x20s (hilly, because that's all I have) for about three weeks and already beaten my (geared) SB from last year on a fixed bike. Also really helped having a Garmin for the first time ever to pace/kick me up the arse.
Now where the hell am I supposed to mount the Garmin so it doesn't get in the way?
Thanks Testman. For the record, I beat my (fixed) course PB last night, 3s off my (geared) SB of 2018. Little correction in case the guys at procyclingstats are watching
