Sad news. He was such a good man. I still remember the occasion when he was manhandled out of the Labour Conference for shouting 'nonsense' at Jack Straw. Shouting anything else at Jack Straw over Iraq would have been inappropriate, of course.
There was a picture that was published in the Guardian at the time that I think would have made a great sculpture--it showed the two heavies who were throwing him out towering over him. He was 82 at the time. I can't find the exact picture now, but it was probably close to this moment from a slightly different perspective:

It just seemed to encapsulate so well the violence being used.
