Yeah, normally my Supernova would be mounted on the fork but I don't have that and I don't have enough room on the bars.

...but when you binned the dynobrake™ and used BatteryPower, you almost won one!

To fix it. I had a spare piece of chain with me and my multi tool has a chain breaker.
Sounds like it’ll break again now so I’ll get some master/ quick links -
• #1005
I need quicklink...?
I just keep them from old chains to carry as spares. Have loads of (dirty) old ones if you need a spare

• #1006
Told you most breaks are the mechanic's fault. ;)
You can normally get decent use out of a rejoined chain if you baby it but there's not a lot of 'meat' hanging on to the pin.

• #1007
Ok...although surely you are likely to damage more than one link?

So how have you used the seatpost - where is it fixed to?
I'm struggling for places to mount lights. -

Usually a chain breaks at its weakest link (as the old saying goes...), no?
-
• #1010
Are you? If you're taking a chainbreaker anyway then by all means take 5 spare links but take 2 quick links too and you can now quickly add in a 5 link section or less

The only reason I didn't run out of battery power was that the weather was so shit I ended up in hotels and able to recharge the batteries. I reckon I'd have got 3 nights out of that front light so I'd have to have stopped to charge it at some point anyway and there was the GPS recharging issue on Sat as well but I think that was the Garmin's problem not battery.

Hmm I have a spare chain. I’ll see what Sigma day and go from there. Thanks though.
Do you need those weird pliers to undo the KMC ones?
-
• #1013
Not just a pretty face hey
-
• #1014
I normally carry a couple of Master Links and a pin or two (in case I end up with Shimano chains). They weigh nothing and might prevent a premature end to your ride.

Can do it without them but they make it a lot easier. I would rely on doing with my fingers in the field.
-
• #1016
I thought I was suitably prepared but learnt something.
-
• #1017
Surely I’ll only be putting it together in the field??
-
• #1018
Oi Hippo. Do you need a dyno light or not? You can borrow mine if you've an important ride to do
-
• #1020
Don't let a chain hold you back. Be the first to finish without one. Lighter too. :)
-
• #1021
That's quite good - not thought of doing that. Don't normally carry old bits of cable but I guess other things would work.
-
• #1022
The proper pliers help but it's not impossible to do by hand.
Woolf Tooth do a cool multi-tool with pliers. -

Just remember I've done lots of these and I always fuck something/things up.

I'm fine with the battery setup for the next month - audaxes and the Transpyrenees which I'm going to be riding not so much racing. I still have my full setup on the old bike (on the turbo) I can use so thanks but I'm covered. I'm just annoyed with their delays.
Well they take up no space so I'd absolutely be taking one or two with me. You can fix a chain with one in 30 seconds
