  • I'm probably going to need some sleep so nice to have the adjusted track. Less potential to get it wrong.

    What's your start time?

  • Yeah, I will definitely be using the sleep stops on all of these 600s because I don't want to lose a full night's sleep and make the next day, or next event miserable. I'm in the 7:30 group. I figured I could use the extra sleep the night before and I'm generally quicker than most so will get a bit more chance to be social (aka wheelsuck) on the way through the field.

  • I chose 6:00 because i'm slow and I have a flight at 8:00 on Monday, so I really need to not piss about and get finished as early as I can on Sunday.

  • Ouch.

I'm probably going to get a train to Windsor, so it should be 1.5-2hr quicker getting to/from the start for me.

  • I booked the Travelodge in Maidenhead ages ago for 25 quid, if I want going away on the Monday I would done the same.

  • Weather looking nice for WCW!

  • I'd like to organise an Audax in 2020. A London departing 200 AAA.

    Any tips from anyone?

  • Cake throughout
    Beer at the finish
Start as far from London as possible
    Provide good GPX file(s)
    Have a theme

  • Start at Canopy and control at Kentish micro-breweries?

  • That would appeal to pissheads like me. Not sure most breweries would cope with audax crowd wanting cheap food, quickly though?

  • A London departing

    😔

40 miles of misery .. I like the ones that are just outside London.

  • I'm looking at putting on my first event here in Scotland, also a AAA 200 from Aberdeen out the Cairngorms.

First step was getting in touch with the area events organiser delegate. who provided the necessary forms and guides.

  • I'm riding my first 600k this weekend. Hoping for the weather to hold out.

  • wow, might need suncream?

  • every time I see a small village hall / similar in North Kent I say to myself "that'd make a great audax arrivée"

  • Steam express from Bristol.

  • I took sunscreen on the Ben Allen 600. Used some on my nose on day 2 even though I didn't take my leg warmers off all weekend. UV penetrates cloud so even if it's not that hot, you can still get burned.

  • adds another 600 route to list

That looks decent. You packed for it yet?

  • Have you read the AUK pdf 'UK Organiser's Handbook'? If you don't have it I'd email Pat at audax.events.se.team@gmail.com to send you one plus they're really helpful in general.

I wouldn't mind doing it at some point, but it does sound like a bit of a journey. You need a audax mentor to start with, then can only do 'Level 1' (up to 200k) for your first one. Which is sensible, I guess.

Normally I think if you're not looking at an overcrowded event area, just plan something locally based that you enjoy riding and showcases the area, and enter it up as a new event. I guess London isn't as crowded as some areas so a brand new route might be fine.

  • No, I'm off work for 10 days after tomorrow so I'll pack Thursday. It should be warm but I'll still take the bagman for stashing food.

  • Mudguards essential.

  • Good shout.

No parking at the start too.

  • Ha, I do this all the time!

  • Haha yeah I'll take some! Do you know if we can jump on any train from Padding to Maidenhead on Friday evening or do i need to book a bike slot?
