Bought an ex-display frame on condition of respray (stinking paint job), took them two months to send me repainted frame, wrong colour, dust/fluff under and on lacquer, grit from sand blasting all around BB under lacquer and decals rough as fuck; raised edges or bits of head and seat tube badges rubbed away from careless smoothing down, scuffed paint under lacquer, paint again rubbed away at ends of HT and dropouts... Dogs dinner basically and not what you're expecting for money/reputation.
They initially made all the right noises about returning and redoing it and told me it would be a priority job; didn't reply to my emails after that and when I asked for a refund (a month in) was told it was going in the oven that day with same excuses they gave me for the paint being shite the first time. I insisted on the refund and got the strangest responses which equates to them offering to repaint the original frame as somehow being a favour (it was a clear condition of me even wanting to buy it) and seeming very entitled to endless opportunities to make good and continuing to refuse any refund.
I'm more annoyed about their attitude at this point compared to the appalling paint job, but equally, I can't believe they ever allowed it out their shop looking like that. So yeah, should have had the frame built up months ago and now being forced to do a chargeback through my bank because the owner's taken the huff for being called out on a total lack of professionalism.
Tldr: words are cheap...

Sausages are cheaper

Of course it may be another brand other than loctite , so the red colour of yours may be misssleading.

Sounds horrible, though par for the course as far as UK paint jobs go.

whats the deal with a lot of users nowadays buying items off here for cheap and then selling them for profit?
kinda makes me not wanna sell on here anymore...
my mate sold a complete bicycle for 600£ and then the next couple days later the frames for sale for £600 -

Cheers, I’m going to try V-Tech 871... That Loctite is described as ‘permanent’ which sounds a bit frightening. However, used with grease it might not be - it may well be that which Royce are presumably repackaging.

Ah that comparison I’d seen it before, I couldn’t find it. Cheers.
Going with another brand for now.

It's called arbitrage. If I can't be arsed to put in the time and effort to achieve the best possible price for something I'm selling, it would be churlish to deny whoever buys it their reward if they do then put in the effort.

Ordinarily. But I often sell things on here for a lot less than they’re worth because I’ve bought things on here for very cheap before and I like to pass on the kindness. I’ve seen a load of people then passing on the bargain when they’ve had their use. I think it’s just courtesy in our community. I’ve bought cheap on eBay and sold for profit but never on here. I’d like to think of most others doing the same

What's the difference, in terms of your eternal reward, between the beneficiary of your charity having parts for cheap and his having no parts but a cash reward for doing a some work?

community
I've seen "spirit of the forum" invoked in this question before. Don't forget that the spirit of the forum is for the owner to parlay the good will of LFGSSers into getting them to pay for his attempt to become the next dot-com billionaire 🙂

Yeah, at least Bob Jackson has a banner on the site giving lead times for returns because they're busy.
I just got the impression Mercian lost interest as soon as I paid up-granted not as much as a full custom everything order-but still over a grand so you shouldn't be left looking at something with a worse finish than you could achieve yourself with rattle cans in the garage.
Anyway... The frame itself was lovely so it's a pity, but if I had to deal with any other issues I think it would be like pulling teeth.

i understand
i have an "internal care" for an item going to a good home, to be ridden by someone who desires it. not for that item to be turned over for profit.
its the reason i sell here and many others, you make great connections with people you wouldn't have met otherwise ,the users are so friendly buying it off you, squeezing little bargains or free stuff here and there, saying things like, theres a scratch, lower the price etc.
but then you question them afterwards, why did you buy it just to sell it? they act hostile, delete the accounts or become dormant.
again its that internal feeling knowing a bicycle or something you owned is making someone happy too, not for its cash value but the desire to ride or use.
i had a free seat post i sent to a guy on here a while back, and he sold it on for profit on ebay two days later. sad times. but lifes tough haha. im just not going to sell on here much anymore now, its happening a lot -

If you sell to A for £10 and A sells to B for £20, then the item has ended up at its best home because B obviously wanted it more than A did. A has done you a favour by finding a better home for your unwanted item than you managed by yourself. You're happy because you wanted £10 more than you wanted the item, A is happy because he also wanted £10 more than he wanted the item, B is happy because he wanted the item more than he wanted £20.

B is the middle man who just wants profit and money, pretending he wants the frame, the pretending is the problem, i would not sell something to someone for them to make profit from me. Reputation of the forum decreases with dodgy users

Every time you make any exchange, the other party profits from you, regardless of whether they make further exchanges with third parties using the same goods. Fortunately, you also profit from them.
You can go through life ascribing bad motives to market actors and make yourself miserable, or you can stop imagining that you have some mystical insight into their motives and judge them by the results of their actions. A got the item out of your way and paid you more than you'd have settled for, and then gave it to B for less than B thought he might have to pay. A might be a profiteering arsehole, but he has done both you and B favours by accident in the process. -

sad times
As sad as the times, short as they were, that you had with my brother's Harry Hall? You got it from me, extracted some value from it by riding it a bit, then wanted the same money to move it to the next owner. Personally, I wouldn't have cared if you'd parted it out, advertised it better, and made yourself £100, but if you want to get on your high horse about extracting surplus value from exchanges on LFGSS, why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

I came to slough from Birmingham short notice on the train that cost me 45£
When I came back to bham I build it up I only rode it up the road like 50 metres and it was too small for me, i didnt include the handle bars or stem but instead i sold it with a wheelset. I put a crankset on too but on removal my crank extractor ruined the thread so it came with cranks too. I didn’t make anything from the harry. I’m not on here to make money, just to have a great experience with bicycles of all sorts and meeting peoples. Avoiding the arseholes is getting abit difficult now ahah -

I’m not posting more on this thread after this but i just mean like, massive profits like, 250£++++ it’s peak it’s peak

Just found out that Shimano had a 10 pitch series. Was this ever a thing? Or did it go the way of the Betamax, Advanced Photo System and Minidisk?

I kinda want it for my 650c track build… That'd be cute.
Ritchey breakaway style frames - what's the risk of over-torqueing the downtube coupling?
I thought the required torque was 4-5nm but it keeps creaking and seem to loosen off (which makes the bike feel a bit noodly later on in rides). I can try more power but don't want to risk any damage. Anyone had this issue before?
