  • I'd be interested in knowing how much your insurance is.

When I tried to get my Douze e-Cargo bike which was around £4,500 new, all insurance companies hit me with a £450 annual premium + £250 compulsory excess.

It is a mental amount as it is more than my car, motorbike and house insurance put together (all in Zone 2 London).

Fingers crossed, three years on, I still have my bike and I have saved £1,350 on insurance...

  • Laka suggest between 18 and 38 per month for a £4,500 bike, cover includes ebikes

Let me know if you want a referral code. Saves about £25 I think

  • Thank you for the screenshot.

For the business use I'd imagine it'd be closer to £38 than £18.
    £38 x 12 = £456 which is the number I was quoted.

They want to promote cycling, reduce congestion, improve air quality then they charge you more than a car for insurance.

Makes no sense but makes them money!

I will keep taking the risk and have no insurance against theft (I already have personal insurance via British Cycling and goods in transit with my business insurance).
