I'd be interested in knowing how much your insurance is.
When I tried to get my Douze e-Cargo bike which was around £4,500 new, all insurance companies hit me with a £450 annual premium + £250 compulsory excess.
It is a mental amount as it is more than my car, motorbike and house insurance put together (all in Zone 2 London).
Fingers crossed, three years on, I still have my bike and I have saved £1,350 on insurance...
You should have ‘self insured’ and put at least half the money aside in a saver account, and if you had to spend on a new one the balance would probably be the same as your excess.
