  • I'm having my fusebox and meter moved so they're more out of the way. What should I put on the wall for these to be mounted to? Just some MDF or something more substantial?

  • plywood would be better, also a good idea to space of the wall on a couple of battens to allow the cables to enter to the rear of the box

  • 18mm osb or ply is what I normally see. Damp is a problem for MDF and consumer units are not always but often in dark cupboards where damp could be an issue.

Just saw pryally's answer, which covers it and adds the thing I forgot to mention. :)

  • Ok. About the meter.

How far are you moving it? Anything less than 1 metre you need to talk to the supplier.

Anything over you need to talk to the distributor.

An electrian can move the distribution board but can't touch meters as they don't belong to you.
