"Feel free"... Yeah I've never felt as free as I do when I have a big bulky, warm, explosive scarf wrapped tightly around my neck.

    Newest version of a Hövding = 650g
Giro Foray (by all accounts a cheap bicycle helmet) = 270g.

Pretty sure I know which of those will make me feel more 'free'.

The Fox Proframe is only 100g more than than the Hövding and its a bloody certified DH race helmet! And its cheaper!

  • I get your point, yet I also think you do get what they're saying, don't you.
Plus to be fair they seem to protect ya neck quite well indeed.

With the ‘Feel free’ line? No, I don’t really really don’t get it.

I get that it’s a product that’s perhaps aimed more at countries where cycling is more normalised than in the uk, countries where the focus is on functional bikes being part of daily life and not on performance. Countries where helmet wearing is not so normalised.

What I don’t get is how anyone thinks that wearing a Hövding is less of a drag than wearing a helmet.

It doesn’t look any less bulky to carry around off the bike plus you have to be cautious of jolting it lest it explode.

Everyone knows what a cycling helmet is and while there are groups, cities and countries where helmet wearing is absolutely not the norm, I’ve never seen anyone make an issue out of anyone else choosing to wear a helmet or ask what their helmet was.

    So, freedom, from what exactly?

    Inconvenience? Hardly.

Impact upon your sense of style? I think a bike helmet would have less impact.

Your hair do? Yeah maybe. But if you’re that vain and self obsessed you could probably just do without the helmet as a bump on the head might actually do you some good.
