wtb: disc fork

  • As per title, after a non-tapered carbon fork. Something along the lines of a 650b/700c gravel/cross fork. Ideally looking to spend no more than £100 and must be able to fit atleast a 42c tyre.

    Cheers in advance!

  • I've got a fork of my Kinesis Tripster which I think fits your bill? It's basically this (https://www.sigmasports.com/item/Kinesis/Tripster-AT-Frameset/FVB2) including the paint scheme. Have got the spare headset and thru axles if you're after those too.

  • Ah just seen you wanted non tapered. Sorry!

  • You could get a 26” mtb rigid fork, problem might be A-C, most are around 425-440mm, most gravel forks are 390-400.

There can’t be many (or any?) straight steerer carbon ‘gravel’ type forks.

  • @Brain-Stew no worries! would have been perfect if it was non-tapered.

@ThePeginator that's kind of along the lines of what I've been looking at, although my only luck in finding one has come in the form of chinese full carbon forks and I'm just not sure whether running a chinese carbon steerer on a gravel/cross bike is safe in the long term?

Currently using a Surly Troll fork which looks and is great functionally, but the bike weighs 13.5 kilos so I'm trying to make it lighter.

  • Yeh your call, try AliExpress and sort by orders.

  • I‘ve been looking for one for quite a while and there aren’t a lot of options around with a straight steerer. I think the best options are a Brother Kepler Carbon Fork and the Fyxation Sparta all Road.

    Some options in here

@Ziggy. I'm using a toseek £60 full carbon 26" fork from ebay on my cross check ( https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/265690/?offset=275#comment14744857 ) and I'm not dead yet

  • @Oddo Actually very tempted by the brother fork, a lot more expensive than what I'm after but probably worth it, especially for the allow steerer. But on the other hand @alialias has tempted me with a china carbon toseek fork, what I've actually bee looking at.

@alialias, what sort of quality is the fork? How does it feel to ride and have you taken it off road yet?

@Albb Not after a steel fork unfortunately, although very cool. GLWS!

  • No worries :) thanks
I lost the word carbon that makes a big difference :)

  • what sort of quality is the fork? How does it feel to ride and have you taken it off road yet?

I'm not an expert in any sense but it seems fine. I've taken it around some pretty rough paths and I'm no mtb'er so I'm probably whacking it around harder than a more skilled rider would be, maybe. I can't complain, but I've never had a "quality" full carbon fork either

  • fwiw I managed to pick up a new Lynskey Endurance fork on Gumtree for £80 last year. So far it's been great and as far as I know it's one of the only options out there for non-tapered steerers. Good one to keep an eye out for.

  • @alialias so far it seems like it's perhaps worth the £80, if it can withstand some ragging around for the next year or two I'd be more than satisfied! Did you say you bought a 26" one? What wheels and tyres are you running measurements wise?

@HCee great thanks for the advice! £80 seems like such a bargain after having a quick look at a few! They don't seem to be very common though on the bay?

  • Yeah it was quite a steal and I was quite lucky that there was one for sale at the time. Another thing you could consider is a fork from a Genesis cdf which on inspection looked to have come out of the same mould? Might be able to find one of them for sale somewhere.

  • Some cheap 700c disc wheel from planet x (https://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/WPGIROEQ/gipiemme-roccia-equipe-700c-29-inch-disc-wheelset), with a 2" conti race king, it fits really well.
I think the axle to crown is 425mm, so a little taller than my crosscheck fork would have been originally, but I've long since forgotten the difference in handling

  • @HCee Is this the new £300 enduro fork by genesis you're eluding to? Or is there another?

@alialias glad that you're able to confirm that the 26" can still accommodate a 700c wheel and 2.0 tyres, I'm even more tempted now by a toseek fork.

After visiting P&L today to ask about the Brother Kepler carbon fork I've been thrown a bit regarding what I should do with the bike and upgrades. In their opinion, a fork isn't perhaps what is going to make the most difference, if anything at all. Hopefully this was just a case of him being synical. I'll resume the conversation over on the thread for my Klein Gravel bike to discuss plans further.
