  • Seriously, it's taken me a year to see this thread? I need to get out of my Favourites a bit more often...

  • Would you enjoy it as much if you felt pressure to make a certain distance each day?

  • When I was in Ireland, the coastal views were always best when there was the threat of rain, a bit like the photo above. The light is amazing. And it's always a but of a lottery whether you'll get wet or not...

  • That’s what rain jackets are for.

  • Not really sure what you mean...?

  • If it's a race are you there to enjoy the scenery? Especially if you're whizzing through a few 100kms a day.

  • Well I’m not sure riding with my eyes closed would be very wise.

  • It’s not a race this year :) i might do it on the retro mtb

    1. All forward travel must be by bicycle.

Would a velomobile count? Having a roof would be fantastic.

  • Apparently they're not the barrier to climbing we all thought... although TAW... so many hills...

  • Maybe Bjorn will be happy to switch with you next year and do TABR so you can do TAW and tie again in the ultracycling-races-done-in-a-year competition :)

  • Shit, don't make that a competition. I burn enough money on these adventures as it is.

  • Ah now this is something to dream of doing. I was out cycling the westway with my sister last week, this is one of the many spectacular views in Achill

@pastry_bot sorry I never got back to you mate. I didn’t have to time to do my own tour in the end but thank you so much for the info on Donegal

  • It's spectacular out there

  • Well I've only gone and entered this. Expect loads of annoying questions over the next 6 months.

  • From you or from those of us racing through you vicariously? :P

  • Steven Abraham | M | GBR

    anyone else signed up?

  • Good to see TG entering an ultra-race!
Jayne Wadsworth has done TCR a couple of times, I don't know many others on the list.

But a good lot of entries this far out

  • Right, I'm going to kick this off again. I'm riding this year, have signed up to trackleaders and everything.

    Anyone else on here riding?

  • Alaina Beacall TABR and writes articles for Arrivee

    Ede Harrison TCR winner

Jason Woodhouse has done TABR and TCR and some other stuff

Jo Burt I think was in a pair or started a TCR or something and writes about bike stuff (

  • Good crib sheet! I've just scanned the list and there are no other names I recognise (and Jayne Wadsworth has now disappeared). Surprising, but shows that there are always loads of new people coming into this.

    Paul Buckley TCRx2?

Paul has had to DNF the TCR twice so given up chasing that one. He posted on facebook that he did a 400 mile non-stop solo ride over the weekend, so getting back into shape.

  • I like Paul. He gave me loads of info and tips before my first TCR and I still have the framebag he sold me. I knew he DNFd one of them because he was crook but I couldn't remember the other one - I remember he dropped lots of time in Croatia due to the wind but I couldn't remember if he finished it off or not.

I see names I recognise in the start lists but the problem is unless I've had direct interaction or they're memorable then I don't know if I recognise them from dot watching or if I recognise them from being in a race I've also been in.

I met up with Ed Tapp from last year's TABR on Saturday and it was funny because he talked about how we split costs in a hotel room last year and I have zero recollection of it. I remember splitting with Ryan on two different nights but not Ed. I do remember Ed out-climbing me and I'd keep catching him on the descents and chatting about software for a bit and then drinking chocolate milk at a supermarket and then he disappeared until the finish but no hotel stay. I really should've written a post-race blog..
